Have we given up on stopping spam?

Could be a registration issue . .

People familiar with the accounts 'set up' could clue us in. I doubt New accounts  arent 'pre-screened', or only approved after the Moderator has reviewed them. I should say 'accounts'. Where/when you Log-In for the first time. Commonly waiting well over 24 hrs to get the be 'approved' by moderators can be almost the pits. I dont remember the registration process at this board myself (but I am pretty tired right now). I have noticed where people not logged-in can post messages to certain areas of the board. Which leads me to believe it might be easier to exploit.

Often there is a anti-bot tactics in registering at a any forum, some got fancy and actually included an additional one. One approach to text-based CAPTCHAs is to create a central "anti-bot server", or to decode a audio or visual matrix. The other really common one is the anti-bot 'question'. A human can only answer. Again, some registration processes have at least two measures, only very recently. Ask one of the mods if this is at all so. Or maybe they could ask any guilty of using sock-puppets or registering more than once (specifically Foz and Pa could tell us).

 It is being looked into.

It is being looked into. It is the worst I have ever seen it. It is hard to keep up with it.

one thing about spam. If you reply to it, your reply will be considered a child by the software. When we delete spam the children also get deleted.

No.  If I go to work or sleep I come back to 30 minutes worth of spam removal.  Otherwise I check in every hour and spend about 5 minutes for every hour I am away.  It is very hard to keep up with right now.

I hope the new website has better anti-spam resistance.

 It's really bad today.

Brian, am I right in thinking this site is based on Drupal architecture? If so, have you implemented Mollum?

Although I'm still a relatively minor person here, I am more than happy to delete spam (and spamming users) as I find it, if you deem it appropriate to provide such 'privilege'...

It's partly the fault of my absence, and mostly the fault of capitalism. Apologies. Hopefully I'll have a partial remedy to the situation shortly.
