Prayers to Jake website has died...

It is with great sadness that I announce the death of a website that is near and dear to my heart.  Sadly PrayersToJake.com is now owned by an asian outlet with the interest of capitalizing on the power of the domain name.  Jake lost focus for a minute there and it got stolen.  You may already know that Jake has been taking some time away from kicking ass on the internet.  He put atheistnetwork.com to sleep a few months back.

His site atheistnetwork.com is where I became an atheist primarily because of his line of questioning.  His site will always be important to me, and thankfully he hasn't lost that domain.  His knowledge, time, effort, and level headed approach has changed me immeasurably.  The clarity and patience that he had while volunteering for him in my first few years of activism is something I'll remember forever.  He is like no other man I know, and at times the many people who knew him on his message board would consider him worthy of prayer.

A legend grew that he was godly.  People started praying to Jake, I'm sure there was an early thread call "Pray to Jake" and people did in fact do so.  I promise you, atheists literally prayed to Jake.  People reported their findings and prayers were in fact answered.  I had several instances where I was spooked by how helpful Jake was in answering my prayers.  Jake bought the domain and I slapped a website on it to bring more people into the prayers to Jake club.

On this site, I've referred to prayerstojake.com many times.  I'll miss it.  But I won't miss praying to Jake.  From time to time I will allow myself to pretend.  I will allow myself to pray to a man that has helped make me who I am.  It might have a calming effect for me.  And when my prayer is answered, I'll allow myself to pretend that maybe Jake answered my prayer, even while knowing that he didn't.

May all your prayers to Jake be answered.

Jake has youtube videos addressing religion here: http://www.youtube.com/user/chronicbudha

Atheistnetwork.com formed a small group of ex atheist network people at: http://www.atheistnetwork2.com I however consider RRS forums home to all atheist network folks.

You know something, well over a year ago,  Jake was a guest on Sapients live podcast; so I prayed to him, right to his face for a new car; and Jake said  he'd answer my prayer if I would work hard and save my money.   The problem is that I haven't had a paying job since May 2008 when my factory was shipped off to other countrys  [Sri Lanka, Redstone Penn. & Gorham Maine].  The truth is I didn't need a paying job since around 2001 but I didn't know THAT until my enforced retirement in 2008.

Anywho  2 weeks later I went to my local  GMC dealer and drove away with my new  Acadia, Thanks Jake!!!!!!!! A precious moment thanks to Jake was when the salesman described how difficult GMAC financing would be without a steady job and I put down a certified check for the full amount and asked for the keys.  You just can't buy that stunned look on the salesmans face thanks Jake,  come to think about it I did buy that look, Acadias aren't cheep, thanks anyways Jake.

You should have hard balled that sales man. Seriously.

Motleyfool.com has a guide for buying cars that has many tips for getting the best deal possible. If you are going to pay the whole deal up front, there is a discount for the fact that they are not exposed to additional risk.

Another good discount to go for, if you know what you want, is to send a fax or email to every dealer in as large a radius as you are willing to work telling them all that it is a group contact and that you are going to go with the lowest price any of them are offering. If you do that, you stand a reasonably good chance of getting close to dealers cost.

Combine those two and you could have saved thousands.

BTW:

Prayerstojake is still open at .org .net and .info.

However, if he is willing to wait a bit, starting in January, ICANN is going to have a 90 day free for all where any TLD you can name can be yours. He could get prayersto.jake if he jumps on it before someone else named jake gets the application in.

Heck, Brian, you should think about this too.  you could grab rational.responders.  BTW, the www thing is actually useless crap that gets inserted for marketing.  You could easily end up with this:

http://rational.responders

I don't yet know what they are going to cost but how cool would that be?

Yes, it certainly had that effect on me. Eventually, you begin to understand why you don't need things like prayer or faith to function well. At least, that is what I assume other people have done.

“A meritocratic society is one in which inequalities of wealth and social position solely reflect the unequal distribution of merit or skills amongst human beings, or are based upon factors beyond human control, for example luck or chance. Such a society is socially just because individuals are judged not by their gender, the colour of their skin or their religion, but according to their talents and willingness to work, or on what Martin Luther King called 'the content of their character'. By extension, social equality is unjust because it treats unequal individuals equally.” "Political Ideologies" by Andrew Heywood (2003)
