Sam Harris picks a fight with God

An mp3 interview with Sam Harris. Downloadable from site. Some of the comments on the site are funny.

Sam Harris picks a fight with God

According to the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, an amazing 92% of Americans believe in God or a universal spirit—even one in five of self-identified atheists believe in a higher power. Ardent secularist Sam Harris isn’t deterred by those numbers, and in fact has made it his life’s mission to force the faithful to question their religious faith—Harris would even argue that the future of civilization is dependent on it. Questioning commonly held assertions and wisdom found in the Bible; seeking out debates with theologists across the spectrum, from Judaism to Christianity to Islam; and all but picking a fight with God, Sam Harris takes his secular crusade to Patt’s microphone.

Right, and one in five Christians are really atheists.

Without getting into the "true Scotsman" fallacy, it is possible for someone to claim a label without knowing what goes into that label.

RIGHT NOW as currently defined by theists of all labels you could generalize that they use the word "atheist" as a pejorative meaning someone who defies their particular god.

Most atheists I know define it RIGHTLY as merely a "lack of belief"

BUT I have seen people calling themselves "atheists" holding absurd beliefs.

There is a core commonality to all labels, but that doesn't mean that because one holds a label or claims a label that they won''t or cant hold absurd beliefs.

There ARE some Jews who like the traditions but don't literally believe in a god. There are atheists who celebrate Christmas, whom of course, are not Christians.

SINCE the word atheist strictly refers to god or gods from popular motif, the credulity of absurd claims is not ruled out.

Everyone is an "atheist" to respect to the claims of others outside their own.

One in five bachelors are married!

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare

lol, we should do a scientifically valid study that shows just how illogical people are.

1. What is your marital status? Single, Married, Divorced, Widowed

2. Are you a bachelor? Yes, No

And just count the contradictions. Could do it for all sorts of questions, including atheism.
