Welcome

Tell us  more about life in Brazil has an atheist.   Which part of Brazil?

Which Marx do you refer to?   Karl, Groucho, Terri or Chico;  none of them had much use for religion and neather do I.   You can call me a Groucho Marxist,  Karl I have no use for.

It's the good old Karl90% of

It's the good old Karl

90% of brazilian population is christian. This period of year we see a lot of old pedophiles wearing red having orgasms when kids sit in their laps

According to IBGE(Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), 7% of the population don't have a religion, not atheists only, but is actually a great number comparing to the 70's (0,7%). However, religion keeps being the boss, the discussion of transgenics and genetic legislation made me fell shame of hte country. And as in the others countries, being an atheist is being a devil.

Welcome.

I'm from Australia -  I have briefly visited Brazil, just to view Iguazu falls from that side...

Would love to see more of the country.

Welcome to the site! I love it when people come here from other countries, helps diversify the forum.
I also have little use for Karl Marx. Though I am a socialist, he had a lot of things backwards.

Welcome EK.  Your English is fine so far...I'm sure it's waaay better than my Portuguese.

Funny, my awareness of Brazil comes not from an interest in geography but mainly from my familiarity with the tons of Brazilian fighters who dominate the sport of mixed martial arts.

   Anyway, welcome aboard.

Minotauro and Minotouro Do

Minotauro and Minotouro

Do you know any brazilian movie?

There is "Deus é Brasileiro" (God is brazilian), it's a good movie. On it, God is searching someone to stay at his place 'cause he is going on a vacation. He choose a man who made a lot of charity and stuff, when he finds it, the guy is an atheist Sticking out tongue. It's a good movie, it shows brazilian poverty and it's also kinda funny.

EDIT: Sorry about the double-post

Yeah, in my class they eventually found out because of debates between me and my religion or orientation teacher. How many other atheists are there in your class? There's only one besides me in mine.

Welcome to the RR Forum. Don't mind the Pineapple, she's fun for a while but gets awfully repetitive.

OK, asicde from needling

OK, asicde from needling pineapple, allow me to introduce myself.

I hail from the great state of Connecticut in the north eastern USA.

Among our accomplishments is being first in flight (the Wright brothers were media whores but Gustave Whitehead was flying in 1901 and we have surviving newspaper articles to prove it).

That and we invented the white clam pizza and the Frisbee. Also, the Seawolf submarine and the postage meter are ours as well.

It doesn't work when Muslims blow things up to "force infidels to submit to Allah", nor should atheists expect force to work on believers.

Haha, so true, so true.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare

You didn't say it EK

Brian is just fleshing out his own tolerant position with extreme examples of how not to make religions dead.

I can't say I always agree with him, myself. There's something about people blowing shit up in the name of god that presses my eye-for-an-eye button.

And, of course, the contention that I was born deserving to die, when presented to me by a 'loving' christian also tends to get my pot boiling.

Anyway, welcome to the site - if you're looking for the chance to chat with and be challenged by like minds and cross-dressing theists, this is your forum.

I never accused you of that. Simply warning that when you say you want to see the end of religion, believers ar toooooo stupid to understand that you don't want to force them to not believe, but that you are merely confident that your position is solid and will win the day with use of reason.

When you say you want to see the end of religion, and I do too, they get the image of ovens and stretching racks and Hitler. What you and I are saying is that we have the reason and myth wont win. But we do not want to do as atheists convey some sort of genocidal tactic in our rightful defense of reason.

Funniest moment EVER (to me,

Funniest moment EVER (to me, anyway) was when Hitchens had to define a word for Dennett in 'The four horsemen' video. I had this word in a spelling bee in 6th grade and knew what it meant already.

The word, ladies and gentlemen, is EXTIRPATE.

"Can you use it in a sentence, darth??"

Yes. I wish to extirpate religious belief from Earth.

Far more complete than simply exterminating the religious. Destroy the belief and there are no followers of it.

By the way, Brian37, Godwin's Law.

Just because we want religion to end doesn't mean we need to waste resources putting the religious into ovens or comparing any of our ideologues who would wish to put religious people into ovens to Hitler. lol.

Our Brazilian friend already knows that.
