Similarities between Joseph(OT) and Jesus

Has anyone else seen this site? Does anyone else know any more about this topic and the comparison between the two figures? Does anyone know what Rook thinks about this?

The idea is right, but they are going about it all wrong. Most of what I saw involved too much stretching. Jesus is not written to resemble Joseph, although one could make an argument that some of the events seem similar. Jesus was a literary figure written to resemble the Elijah of Micah and 1 Kings, as well as Elisha of 2 Kings. There are also similarities between Jesus and Moses (mostly in Matthew!), Joshua (Mark, Matthew and Luke) and Asa (Luke, John), as well as others. Mark has us believing that John-Jesus are of the Elijah-Elisha variety. But every step of the way Mark stumps our expectations and shows us a little of the Kingdom of God he believes in. But it isn't until the death of Jesus, where he shouts out in aramaic (only one of two verses in aramaic in Mark) where the "blind shall see," and "those with ears shall hear." It is when he calls on God, where he states that God has forsaken him, then we assume he is calling out for Elijah, but rather - it is interesting that only the Centurian really gets it. The Centurian sees the suffering servant in Psalms as Jesus recites this passage, and sees truely that Jesus is like David - that Jesus is the son of God. This is further explained when the boy in white says Jesus has gone up, we follow the women expecting Jesus in the tomb, but instead it is empty. Of course, these are tropes which all go back to the Old Testament stories. It is interesting that so many parallels can be drawn, with some incredible (even astonishing!) accuracy and simplicity. Why people would have to stretch to try to make Jesus fit into outside personalities (or OT personalities that aren't really accurate) is beyond me.

"You act ridiculously," said Ion, "to doubt everything. For my part, I should like to ask you what you say to those who free possessed men from their terrors by exorcising the spirits so manifestly. I need not discuss this: everyone knows about the Syrian from Palestine, the adept in it, how many he takes in hand who fall down in the light of the moon and roll their eyes and fill their mouths with foam; nevertheless, he restores them to health and sends them away normal in mind, delivering them from their straits for a large fee. When he stands beside them as they lie there and asks : 'Whence came you into his body?' the patient himself is silent, but the spirit answers in Greek or in the language of whatever foreign country he comes from, telling how and whence he entered into the man; whereupon, by adjuring the spirit and if he does not obey, threatening him, he drives him out. Indeed, I actually saw one coming out, black and smoky in color." "It is nothing much," I remarked," for you, Ion, to see that kind of sight, when even the 'forms' that the father of your school, Plato, points out are plain to you, a hazy object of vision to the rest of us, whose eyes are weak." - Lucian, Lover of Lies
