Mushies

I'm not quite sure what to make of this:

http://www.egodeath.com/WassonEdenTree.htm#_Toc135889181

In summary, it suggests that the Garden of Eden tree is Fly Agaric and that Ezekiel and Revelations were written under the influence.

Also that early Gnostic Christians had Shaman tendencies.

It seems too good to be true, but Ezekiel and Revelations do read that way and the artwork does look like a mushroom.

Anyway, an interesting idea at the very least.

My two cents

I read about this in David E. Cummings M.D. book Did Man Create God? - a REALLY REALLY good book about neuroscience, I highly recommend it- and he included a bunch of the similar stuff by Allegro and mushrooms.

I do not know how much I accept the argument that mushrooms had an influence on Christianity, but it seems very plausible.

I'd bet all the worlds

I'd bet all the worlds resources that mind altering substances had an impact on every religion older than a hundred years. Perhaps every religion period, but I wouldn't risk quite so much on that one.
