More than 40 people were taken to hospital — three with serious injuries — after the floor caved in at a packed concert in an Abbotsford, B.C, church late Friday night.

"We were dancing in the front of the stage," Kyle Weber, a teenager who was at the Christian rock concert, told CBC News. "The floor just collapsed. All the speakers just fell down [and] crashed a lot of people.... A lot of people fell through the floor."

At least 23 people were sent to MSA Hospital in Abbotsford, while 16 people were diverted to nearby hospitals in Mission, Chilliwack and Langley, local health officials told CBC News late Friday night. Two more were taken to Vancouver General Hospital.

Police in the Fraser Valley community said they didn't know how many people were actually hurt in the incident at Central Heights Church, but they confirmed that at least three people were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Karen Thiessen and her eight-year-old-son were at the concert when "the heavy lights above the auditorium started to fall towards the crowd" at about 9 p.m., she told CBC News.

A mosh pit in front of the stage was filled with teenagers, she said, and they were jumping and dancing. After the lighting fell, the floor beneath the mosh pit collapsed, she said, and the people on it fell through to the basement about three metres below.

About 1,200 people were watching the concert at the church, at 1661 McCallum Road, she said.

The sold-out event featured contemporary Christian rock band Starfield. A couple of warm-up bands were playing their music when the accident happened, Thiessen said.

Several concert-goers — most of whom were teenagers — were cared for by paramedics at the scene, Thiessen said. She and her son, Isaac, were not hurt.

Ian Hern, a youth pastor at the concert, said there were hundreds of youth jumping and dancing at the time.

"All of a sudden, one of the light poles started to tilt and then the whole floor just caved," Hern said.

Some of the young members in his group suffered injuries such as a broken arm or a dislocated shoulder, Hern said.

"Obviously, the church floor wasn't built to handle that number of people," Hern said.

RCMP from the nearby communities of Langley and Mission were called in to assist the Abbotsford police.

Extra doctors and nurses were also brought in to help paramedics treat the injured, police said.

It is really sucky for the

It is really sucky for the people that got hurt. At the same time, you do have to smile at the irony. Guess god isn't a substitute for proper construction methods.

I heard a couple of those on

I heard a couple of those on some news broadcasts this weekend.

Why should it be a miracle that no one was hurt? Why not say it's a miracle that God would allow such shoddy workmanship in his church?

On a serious note I was glad to hear that no one was seriously hurt.

"'My dear,' Madame Delbene replied, 'the universe runs itself, and the eternal laws inherent in Nature suffice, without any first cause or prime mover, to produce all that is and all that we know; the perpetual movement of matter explains everything: why need we supply a motor to that which is ever in motion? The universe is an assemblage of unlike entities which act and react mutually and successively with and against each other; I discern no start, no finish, no fixed boundaries, this universe I see only as an incessant passing from one state into another, and within it only particular beings which forever change shape and form, but I acknowledge no universal cause behind and distinct from the universe and which gives it existence and which procures the modifications in the particular beings composing it... the absolute contrary holds... We need not fret if we find nothing to substitute for chimeras, and above all let us never accept as cause for what we do not comprehend something else we comprehend even less." - Marquis de Sade, Juliette, pg. 43.

The evidence supports God's love of shoddy workmanship. It's completely ubiquitous. The Almighty also apparently loves beetles.

At least no one was killed.

At least no one was killed.

In the end, those hurt will pray to their god to give them strength to get through their injuries and those not hurt at all will thank god for sparing them an injury. I wonder if the band that was playing will write a song about the incident...?

If the same number of people were injured at an Alice Cooper or Metallica concert the fundies would shout "They deserved it".

I watched the Metallica S&M CD and what  transcended was the love of music. They had video of first chair violinists asking for autographs from the band. They also had footage of fundy protesters outside the venue.

No one died because of their Christianity, or lack of prayer. That is it. The collapse happened because of a design flaw and the unfortunate people in the area were injured as a result.

It is no more a miracle that people survived OR died from this event than it is that babies are born or that old people die.

I feel sorry for the people

I feel sorry for the people hurt, but yeah, ironic.

If they were athiests god would be punishing them.

I guess he was just challenging them, testing their faith.

A while back a girl got killed by a falling tree branch on church grounds after the service. It's a horrible tradgedy, but obviously part of god's plan.

Stuff like this is kinda

Stuff like this is kinda mean. I am glad that no one got hurt, but I haven't wished for them to get hurt to show them the ludicrosity of their ways. It is ironic, but I have known a few people that died in church and no one really thought about it being God's plan. They were just horrible accidents(my friend's Grandpa fell off a ladder and broke his neck). If someone did say, "it was a miracle no one died." I would say improbable, but not impossible(depending on the extent of collapse). This is another example of the silver lining fallacy, which follows the logic of  suppposing the exact worst event possible, then saying anything less than that is a miracle which we will attribute to God, out of his eternal mercy...meh!

I personally thought this

I personally thought this story was fucking hilarious, but then I have a twisted sense of humor. I was just thinking that Christian music is so annoying that God caused this just to shut them the fuck up!

So even God gets bored by

So even God gets bored by people going on and on about him? Singing about higher love and devotion until it makes God puke?

Makes sense to me.

One of the things I don't understand about xstians is that they believe that an omnipotent, omniscient being that is oh-so-great-and-smart-and-wise went to all the trouble of creating us just so that we could look up at his wonderfulness and say, "I wuv you".

I can picture that! "Oh,

I can picture that! "Oh, fuck this! These Christians make me want to puke. That's it. I'm saving the atheists first. They don't think I exist but at least they leave me the fuck alone. When I save them I'll tell them, yeah I exist - but could you just keep doing things like you did? Cool if you come talk to me every few days or so, but don't be like the fucking Christians please? That's why I saved you first. You are mostly good people and you don't bother me and act like sanctimonious assholes like they did. Seriously, you guys and gals are much more interesting to talk to. I know y'all are shocked I'm real, but don't worry - those fucking Christians are crazy, just like you thought and really misrepresented me bad. Here is heaven - all the beer porn video games and shit you want - come talk to me every couple days - you guys are a lot better to talk to than those fucking boring crazy Christians but I do need "god time." You let me alone most of your livs or at least once you didn't think I was real. Really - I like it that way better than the Christians being on my ass all the time. Ok, thats it I want me time - hey anyone want to go bowling? Please only former atheists? You guys wont fawn at the mouth at me I think. I just want to have a few beers and have some fun? Is that so bad? Come on, yeah I'm real but don't worship me - it really embarasses the shit out of me. Yeah, see MattShizzle and Sapient are talking to me like a regular guy. No, don't criticize me over that. I so did not write the fucking Bible. In fact, the only people in Hell besides mass murderers and genocidal dictators are the asshas that wrote that book. Yes, I invented that word too - you were my favorite people - why do you think I shared that word with you? I loved that Flying Spaghetti Monster thing too! It was funny and it pissed off those assholes who were so judgemental and always bothering me. I even made that stripper factory and beer volcano after rweading that. Seriously that was a good idea. Yeah, those fundies even scare me. Notice none of them made it here? What the fuck was wrong with them anyway?
