Russell Blackford (co-editor) says "When it appears on the shelves, you'll see that it has something for everyone, from austere philosophical articles to relatively lighthearted biographical pieces - to some not-so-lighthearted ones! Some authors have encountered religion at its best; some have encountered it at its worst; none actually sees any good reason to believe its supernatural claims."

Hope it hits no #1 on the best seller list. It wouldn't suprise me considering that many non-belief books have been doing that recently.

GOOD FOR YOU KELLY!

Interesting Reading Material...

Ms Kelly:

I really do not understand why I am not able to find an "atheist" or an "agnostic" yet who is not crude, rude, or obnoxious.  Over the years that I have studied religion and human reasoning, every self-titled "atheist" has always been insulting, crude, or downright mean when I try to discuss certain issues with them.  I'm not trying to insult all atheists and agnostics; I'm just simply stating that I have yet to find one who is truly intellectual without resorting to profanity or insults.

I enjoy discussing religion and intellectual theories with people because the human insight factor is very valuable in my research.  I am new to this web site (I heard about it from a friend), and so far it seems as though you are the least crass of all the official members.  Do you recommend any specific forums?

Thank you for your time and I wish you the best in your endeavors.

The crassness really depends on the day of the week, the subject being addressed, and how it's being addressed.  I would recommend you speak directly to hambydammit who is in my opinion the least crass of the top brass around here.  With that said, I've been quite a bit more subdued lately and Kelly actually has not been blogging in part because she'd hit you like Jean Gray in C-men 3 if you caught a piece of her.

Your best bet is our kill em with kindness forum created specifically for the people who insist on a much kinder dialogue, just don't forget that it goes both ways.

For what it's worth I have a feeling you either haven't search far enough for passive atheists or are simply predisposed to seeing all atheists as crude, rude, and obnoxious.  Because from what I've seen, there are millions(literally) of atheists who are not crude, rude, or obnoxious.

On these forums, I can point you toward several members, including nigelTheBold, natural, BobSpence, JillSwift - and that's just off the top of my head! You must not have met that many atheists.

Books

I love books, books and more books.  Can't wait, thanks!

Thank you for your recommendations...

Thank you, Sapient, for your recommendations.

I understand that people's moods change from day to day and that a lot of factors in our lives influence our moods.  I am glad to hear that there are atheists (and agnostics) out there who are reasonably sensivitve to other people's opinions and not always on the offense.

You are correct in that I probably have not searched far enough for passive atheists; I didn't think I would have to, but it certainly seems I will.  Your suggestions will help me a lot; thanks again.  The "kill them with kindness" forum sounds to be the most appealing to me, since I do not see the need for profanity and insults in order to have a good, logical discussion with someone regarding theory, reason, and God.

I certainly did not mean to offend you or anyone else by stating that my encounters with atheists have not been pleasant.  I guess that I am naive to a certain extent in that I do not understand the anger and hostility atheists have towards difference of opinion.  Again, not to insult, but it reminds me of the hostility you see when the Muslims encounter an infidel.  (That's a religion joke)

Thanks again, Mr Sapient, and best of luck to you.

P.S.  I certainly hope Kelly would not "hit" me with aggression if she has never even heard me before.  That's not the type of impression I think your squad would like to portray to the rest of the world.  Best wishes to her also.

Eagerly anticipating the book, but I wish there were more RRS updates. Beggars can't be choosers I guess, but I am curious to know what happened in 2008 that caused the suddenly decline in activity?
