Thank you very much Bob Spence

Bob Spence,

I could have done this in private, but I think everyone should know why you now have a different look to the site. I have made you a site admin giving you Zeus power.  Funny how we don't believe in gods yet both are "Zeus" on this website.

I wanted to elevate your power so you could learn more about how it operates in hopes that you'll be able to expand your role here.  Hopefully you will be able to play an on call role for us when we upgrade and overhaul the site for the year 2012.  Please be careful with the elevated power, and we can talk in private more about how to figure it out.  I get that you probably wouldn't want the power, but please accept it, and help me out in the future.

I am so glad to have gotten to share webpages with you over the years.  You and I go way back.  I can't even remember the years.  It has been a pleasure working by your side on message boards and over the airwaves.    We've been through a lot together and through thick and thin you are right there to bring another cogent argument for science and rationality.  You are a gentleman and a scholar.  You are calm, patient, rational, sane, loyal, and brilliant...  thanks for being here.

In Rationality,

Brian Sapient

P.S. Brian37... feel free to continue the love...

Congratulations Bob. I have a great deal of respect for your contributions and so appreciate your regular presence on RRS.

Wow....I don't quite know

Wow....

I don't quite know what to say.

I so value the ongoing positive interactions I experience here, with people whom I share such significant aspects of understanding and insight into the ultimate mysteries of this Reality.

It has helped keep me on an even keel, especially over the past few years, in the face of major disruptions in what had previously been a long and secure working life, precipitated when the boss of the company I was working for died suddenly of a heart attack early in 2008, at a comparable age to myself.

A drawn out process followed, involving much legal action, which left me with a significant legal bill, and other debts as a result of much reduced income, finally seem to be in the process of resolution, so this is another much needed and appreciated psychological boost to help me get established in a new phase of my life.

I would really enjoy deeply the opportunity to contribute to enhancing this site in whatever way I can, especially by application of my growing grasp of the mechanics of Web technologies.

I am continuing to learn much that is directly relevant to such a task, in the process of working on a significant current project and other earlier ones.

I have seen much here that cries out to me for 'fixing', if I had sufficient access to the relevant software and files.

So, thank you, thank you, Brian, and thanks to all of the others both 'regulars', and 'newbies', and others, that I am reluctant to name at the risk of accidently omitting someone.

Love it! Anything that gives

Love it! Anything that gives me hope the US, among others, is not irreversible sinking into the mire of religion and general irrationality.

Well, better you than me.

Just kidding Bobspence1. Congrats to you.

I know it will take you some finite amount of time to figure stuff out but could you keep a couple of things in mind for me?

The page number thing at the bottom of every thread should be at the top so that scrolling down does not need to happen.

The answer up to now has been that it messes things up. However, it should be possible to implement through css.

Can we get searches on the db by specific fields? It will be a server load issue but finding stuff would be much easier if I could go directly to threads started by, say, deluded god.

Gene, do you think you're able to write that code into the forms?

We could do search again for any subscriber or mod.  This will help avoid server load issues.  I could create an even lower plan of $1.50 per month.

All of these changes are things that are best to do when we upgrade to 7.  The paging on the bottom might be solved with the upgrade to forums for 7.

I cannot think of anyone

I cannot think of anyone more deserving. Outside this website, Bob has been my best friend since I met him. Every time I feel down, he is there. If I don't understand something scientific, he does not pull a Hitchens or Dawkins and dump me. He speaks to my level. As humans go, if you have him on your side, you cant say enough about what he contributes.

He has given me so much confidence in my life. I have felt like an outsider, and in some ways still do. But when I need a boost, he is always there.

Bob is smart science wise, computer wise, but way beyond that, he is compassionate.

Anyone who  hates the NFL and still listens over the net, just to hear me bitch about how much my Redskins suck, just for the entertainment value, deserves a Nobel Prize.

In all seriousness, Bob has been there for me ESPECIALLY the times my mom has been  in the hospital.  He is a smart guy and a sensitive guy and just the type of person anyone should be happy to have as a friend.
