Proof

I watched the interview with Cameron and had to say something about the way the debate was handled.

Kelly said that Kirk and Ray never presented a single shred of evidence that God exists. However, neither Kelly nor Sapient presented evidence that God doesn't exist either. I know that Kirk and Ray said that they could prove God existed so that's probably why Kelly said what she said.

However, I'm simply pointing out the fact that although Kirk and Ray didn't "prove" God existed, neither Kelly nor Sapient can "prove" God doesn't exist either.

So considering both sides can't prove either way through the scientific method, it's pretty redundant in my opinion to say so. In other words, it's a moot point.

Geologic Time Scale

This video covers an alternate theory to the theory of the current geologic timescale which explains phenomena which stumps uniformitarianism, it covers polonium halos, the formation of coal and oil, dinosaur fossils...and provides a logical and scientific train of thought which conflicts with the currently widely accepted geologic time scale.

This is your brain on religion...

Someone wrote a "retaliation" blog to me basically about how true mormonism is and how fantastic it's view of religion and science is. So I retaliated. I've never really said anything like this to a mormon before ( because I'm surrounded by them ) and I never thought I would to this person (because I know her...) but I did. I guess I'm just up to my eyes with being quiet about stupidity. So, here's my middle finger directed at silence.

As for what I said....:

This is stupid. There are so many things I want to say but I'm not sure how to say any of it. I, first and quite honestly, can't believe that someone as intelligent as you actually believes this fairy tale bullshit that is being fed to you. What have people throughout the ages said? Religion is one of the best ways to control people, religion is a tool used for gain. Joseph Smith was sent to jail with his father for being a fraud before he 'founded' the book of mormon. There is NO historical proof that says that the book of mormon comes anywhere close to being true. Let's forget, for a moment, that it was supposedly "founded" during a huge religious reformation of sorts in New York which didn't actually happen until about 7 years AFTER the book of mormon was "founded". Let's also forget for a moment that the story of how the church started was re-written TWICE by Joseph Smith, and both stories conflicted, and both have also been found. Let's also set aside the fact that good ol' Joe's family contradicted him on MAJOR facts of the times, as well as historians from both then and now. Let's forget all that. Oh, and how about those "plates" that were discovered in the 1900's which actually turned out to be the Egyptian Book of the Dead? Oh, and how about all the third parties that did evaluations on Smith and found him to be mentally questionable. No, none of that is important in the least.

Activism

I played the mp3 "Theism is Irrational" to a Jehovah's Witness today. She wouldn't listen to the whole thing. She said that her lack of faith was making her not want to get out of bed already and she was too tired to talk about rationality. ( :

Hate Mail Replies - Part I

From my blog The Angry Atheist at http://angryatheist.blogspot.com (see blog for full text with hyperlinks):

Now to respond to some of the comments from my angry religious readers...These are all in reply to my post THANK YOU, National Geographic!, in praise of the issue with the cover asking "Was Darwin Wrong?" and the first page answering "NO!"

"Conversion" to atheism

Hi all,

Earlier this year I attended a conference that spread over three days, so I had sometime to think things over during the evenings. Since my religious beliefs were on my mind after reading "The God Delusion", "A Letter to a Christian Nation", "Demon Haunted World", and "The End of Faith" I decided to jot down my progress through various religious belief systems.

It started as a bunch of dot points and progressed into a slide show. A few animations and some music were added and the result was posted on YouTube (my first post there ever).

The result has seen some modest popularity, for which I am truly surprised. What I did not count on was the different social and religious climates around the world. I was not really prepared for how atheists were treated, especially in the USA.

Letter to the Editor in Missouri

My letter to the West Plains Daily Quill (Missouri) was finally printed on Friday, June 9, 2007.

Since they left out the "RE:" lines, people are not going to know what I was referring to. It took 3-1/2 full columns. I expected the letter to be trashed, but the editor said he agreed with every thing I said and wanted to print the complete article.

The intent of the letter was to get across to the locals that the "Atheists' books reaching to of best-seller list" author and the news media in general are flooding the news with distortions about the people and methology in the anti-religion books and movement. Hope I made that clear to them.

Creation Museum

As you all may know, the Creation Museum in Kentucky was opened not too long ago. I can't read anything about it without laughing. Ars technica has a great review of the museum with many pictures.

Some of my favourite highlights from the Ars review:

"...they claim the reason poison frogs aren't poisonous in captivity is due to the Almighty. I'm fairly sure it's due to the lack of poisonous mites in their diet, but there you go."

"There was also an explanation as to why, with only one progenitor family, it wasn't considered incest for Adam and Eve's children to marry each other. Apparently there was less sin back then, and therefore fewer mutations in their DNA."

Kirk Cameron

Why did he convert to Christianity? He's holding his faith in absolute vain, in my humble opinion, if he believes his god is omniscient as it says in the bible. He might not have tried the blasphemy challenge or said it out loud but the fact that he was an Atheist means that he had had his doubt in the existence of the holy spirit and that one single factor gives his god a plausible reason to send Kirk to hell. So, if he thinks he's smart enough to fool his god to think that his at least subconscious denial in the existence of holy spirit, his god, I believe, should be pretty stupid and not quite omniscient as the bible says and a lot of Christians believe him to be. So, ironically, Kirk's faith in god, the guy floating around up there, is rather insulting to god, which shows the absolute nonsense the religion bears.
