This was a Triassic archosaur found in the same area as all those Coelophysis fossils at Ghost Ranch. Very interesting. The article suggests that this two-legged, croc-like animal went extinct, allowing dinosaurs that filled the niche to evolve. It was a winning design, so why did it go extinct, allowing for the evolution of dinosaurs that were very similar (Struthiomimus, Gallimimus, etc.)?
