RRS FAQ

Is there an FAQ file on the squad?  Not that I'm that old, but most of you seem (from appearances) to be young and it got me wondering how old most of the group is.  I know you don't give out personal info like where you live and such as this would invite extremist nut-jobs to pay you a visitWink, but is there a team run-down that I have missed somewhere?

I'm 34 going on 18.

If we go on intelligence and wisdom then I would estimate this site to be older than Randi.

I passed the half century

I passed the half century mark some time back.

I'm so old that I remember getting a Coke out of the machine for a nickel. I remember penny Double Bubble. I remember when a first class stamp was four cents.

I remember black and white TV!

I watched "Leave It To Beaver" when it was shown in prime time.

I had a record player (not a stereo) that played LPs.

I remember the operator saying "Number please" when you lifted the handset of a telephone.

Now that's ancient!

I remember being annoyed at having to pay 1 penny tax for my 12 cent candy bar, and being able to buy a candy bar and a coke for 35 cents.

I remember having to choose between either that, or two 15 cent comic books, and being very annoyed when they went up to 25 cents.

I remember the excitement of Batman coming on TV, or the electricity that went through the air when the NBC peacock came on to announce that the next show was in Living Color (tm)

I remember how happy my father was when a new Beatles Album came out.

I remember how he would show off the ninety bucks from his paycheck, and take us out to McDonalds for 3 bucks, and get change back from the other 3 dollars he used  to fill up the gas tank of our volkswagon beetle.

As much as people might say "the prices are the same, it's just inflation", it still somehow seemed cheaper even back then...

I feel so young. I turned 20

I feel so young. I turned 20 in December. Most of my friends were in their 20s before me though. I do however remember black and white tv. My parents were fairly poor mid-late twenties when I was born and for the first five or so years of my life we had a black and white tv which my mum had taken to uni with her. I remember with joy getting a VCR and colour telly! We didn't even have a family computer till I was 12! And they still have that now tired geriatric senile computer.

OK.  Now I officially feel old.

Carrying on the theme...  I remember hearing that some dude had been shot, and all the parents were really, really upset about it.  My family didn't seem all that upset that Lennon had died.  He was an atheist, after all, and a communist...

Not long after that, John Hinkley shot Ronald Reagan, and the TV Show, "The Greatest American Hero" had to change the name of the hero,  at least until the end of the first season.  Oddly enough, there was another thread about crazy things you believed when you were a Christian... this reminds me.  "The Greatest American Hero" was one of my favorite shows, and they did an episode where Bill Maxwell, the FBI guy, was possessed by an evil spirit, and spoke with a crazy voice.  That episode scared the shit out of me, because I thought I might get possessed from watching it.

There was an uproar at my middle school when "Like a Virgin" came out.

I saw The Police in 1984, I think...  I didn't tell my parents because The Police were Rock and Roll, and therefore Satanic.  It was a great show.

I used to believe all the shit about heavy metal music until I started listening to it. That may have been part of what turned me agnostic and eventually atheist. I found out I disagreed with Chirstians about virtually everything and then realized just how ridiculous the whole myth is.

I remember when gas was 27c

I remember when gas was 27c a litre. Diesel was 15c. And I'm not yet 30, though it looms near enough.
