The "smite" forum

This forum is to list all the times God smited (or is it smote?) Someone without justification in the Bible (or at least for a very minor infraction.) I'll put as the first people on this list who got the divine bitch-slap:

The town where the Ark of the Covenant was passing through and it started to fall over. 2 guys commited the crime of trying to steady it, and this made God so angry he not only killed them, but more than 50,000 other people! Can you imagine the reaction in the UN if a dictator killed more than 50,000 people because they touched (for example) his statue, and to keep it from falling! God is good. Bull-fucking-shit!

So many God smites, so

So many God smites, so little time.
The first one that comes to mind is the story of Noah in Genesis.
God kills every human, including babies, on the face of the Earth except Noah and his extended family. Every animal also dies, except for the few he has aboard his love boat. Isn't it wonderful how God shows his love by letting him live? Smiling

The next God smite that

The next God smite that comes to mind is in Exodus when Moses goes to Pharo and demands that the Jews be freed. God hardens Pharos heart so he is unable to let them go. God, being the perfect example of love, wisdom and goodness, kills the firstborn of every Eygptian.

Next up is Jeptha's

Next up is Jeptha's daughter. In Judges 11:30-39 this is the oh so wonderful and loving story of how God makes a pact with Jeptha to allow him to sucessfully kill his enemies in exchange for Jeptha making a sacrifice to God of the forst living thing that meets him upon his return home from the batttle. Jeptha's innocent daughter runs out to meet him and Jeptha realizes that he must kill his daughter. Unlike Abraham, God does not stop his hand at the last second and spare the innocent life. Probably because the victim here is not a male, God's favorite sex.
I sure feel comforted that Christians claim that our laws and morality comes from the Bible, otherwise we'd just break down into a bunch of murders and rapists. Smiling

Another favorite example of

Another favorite example of God's love for us can be found in 2 Kings 2:23-24. This is the story of some children seeing a man that was bald and they made fun of him, as children sometimes do. Well they picked the wrong persons to make fun of as they were prophets. Soon a bear arrived on the sceen and killed all the little brats. That'll learn them!

There was that time (Acts 5)

There was that time (Acts 5) where a married couple sold some belongings and neglected to report all of the earning. Both were scared to death and buried for their transgression.

Not on the massive scale of the OT but was the first to come to mind.

We must favor verifiable evidence over private feeling. Otherwise we leave ourselves vulnerable to those who would obscure the truth.
