Christopher Hitchens on Morning Joe promoting "The Portable Atheist"

Joe Scarborough interviewed Hitchens this morning about a book he put together called "The Portable Atheist." They also discuss the success of other atheist authors, the rising non-belief in America, and the story about the teacher in Sudan:

It's sad that atheist do a

It's sad that atheist do a ton of volunteer work and never receive credit for it because we aren't part of some organization. Who here's about so and so's organization with several atheist who came out to help?

I received a prestigious award for my volunteer activities on the Tyndall AFB Honor Guard ,but the word atheist was never attached. I'm sure others have done the same and even better without anyone ever asking if they were atheist.

The discussion was almost

The discussion was almost pathetic, but Hitchens presented himself very well and managed not to get red faced over the annoying repetition and inanity of some of the questions.  I really want to grab up a copy of that book.  It would be really nice to have a kind of quick reference work of so many secularist and atheist writers over the centuries.

Did anyone find the female co-host to be annoying and did she seem at all to be patronizing an insincere when she said the book would be a great stocking stuffer after the fifth time?

I find it amusing how little

I find it amusing how little faith that guy had.l  "i'm not going to show this to my son's".  This just shows how intellectually dishonest many theists are, they have to keep their children in the dark to keep them subscribed to their own forced veiw of reality.

To go beyond your limits you must first find them.

fantastic

fantastic. Hitchens certainly gets his message across fairly quickly and succinctly. Good to see him getting coverage in the mainstream media, and fantastic that he's put out another book, keeping the pressure up. Nice.

I was appauled hearing him say that.  All I could think was "oh no, what might happen if you let your child to see a different point of view?"  Shouldn't these people be comfortable enough in their own beliefs to not be scared of other opinions?

Yes. Her attitude at the end was, "Let's move on...please."

Scarboro kept saying repeatedly that he was going to keep the book away from his kids. Sure. Let them read an ancient book about talking donkeys and walking corpses. That's much better for their minds. (Rolling eyes)

Frosty's coming back someday. Will you be ready?

I'm pretty sure talking donkeys and walkign corpses are the least of the things someone shoudl worry about in relaition to children about the bible.  How about genocide repeatedly, the whole idea of hellfire and burnin. Those are what one should be worreid about in realtion to children, they'll have fucking nightmares if they read that shit.

They obviously arent'. Or they deem it something as offensive on the par with pornography or violence. In that case, they are to be pitied.
