Geologists have known for quite some time that Yellowstone sits on a mega volcano. The last erruption was 400,000 years ago. But, scientists have recetently re adusted the size of the magma chamber, which is much bigger than they thought prior.

It isn't a matter of if, but when. Currently short term we most likely have not much to worry about, but WHEN if that thing blows full out, it will not be concerned with our religions or boarders or politics anymore than the meteor was concerned about the dinosaurs.
