I post all over the web, but I want a back up in case my computer or one particular website goes down.
I have decided to edit this post because I do not like giving people the wrong impression. I cannot read Shakespeare to save my life. I just remember this one line from act 5 scene 5 and put my own spin on it. I've had to explain this over and over so here I decided to put that in this post so there is no more presuming what I know or don't know. But the plot of MacBeth is the old lesson, you can have everything and nothing at all at the same time. And how did all that cruelty serve you in the end? But I do not like play summeries calling him a Nihisist, because it is possible to not do what he did, and accept life as being finite, and sitll have morals without religion.
NEW EDIT 9/19/22 I got pissed at myself that I was scared to read MacBeth, so tonight, I forced myself to read it online. Now mind you, I did not understand it line for line, but basically Macbeth was an assdhole who murdered his way to the top, and did not believe the 3 witches prophcies. He murdered Duncan and had Banquo murdered. Banquo's ghost haunts Macbeth. And made the grave mistake of attacking McDuff's family and killing them(If I am reading this correctly) But Lady MacBeth has a guilty conscience and kills herself, upon finding out Macbeth basically says that life is not worth living and he should go down with a fight anyway, but refuses to fight Macduff face to face and Macduff kills him as the hero. ( I SERIOUSLY read the entire play every line, tonight. I even know where the famous line "double double, toil and trouble". comes from. The three witches, basically saying "look out Macbeth" your ass is in trouble.
So basically the moral of the play, don't be a fucking asshole when trying to get to the top, or "the bigger they are the harder they fall". Reminds me of the movie Scarface and all the shitty things Tony did to get to the top and all for not. But Sosa in that case was not a good guy either.

Good Guys Wear Black, By Brian37
One weekend night
On typical male plight
At a now defunct bar named Rhiannons
While looking for chicks at this dance bar
Twas not my quest
To go home
All by myself
Without a woman
But if you don't score
Then you hang out
And talk to friends
Or meet new people
To the man in the black hat
I had divulged that night
That I wrote down things
In fanciful ways
He said to me
We have a group for that
Poets Anonymous
Is what they called it
But I said to him
I'm not that good
He said to me
No one will judge
So a couple weeks later
With much trepidation
I took what I had
To the meeting
I picked out my best
Read it aloud
To my surprise
A welcoming crowd
So all that you read
In this thread
Is due to a chance meeting
With the man in the black hat

This poem is dedicated to a guy I met at the titled bar in the poem. I struck out with women that night, but got to hang out with him. The reason you read all this stuff now in this thread, EVERY poem, is because of meeting a guy named Sam Hurst, I met that night at that bar. I mentioned I wrote poetry. He wanted to hear it, I told him I wasn't that good. He insisted I go to the Poets Anonymous meetings in Northern Va where we lived. I did. And quite frankly I was scared shitless. But Sam simply pushed me to read my stuff, and when I did, I found out the truth of life. Some people will like it and some people wont.
The poem is an ode to Sam Hurst, of Poets Anonymous. The guy who pushed me to write and be myself. I met him in the early 90s.

Tis one thing to dismiss
The clearly debunked
It is a must
To advocate for reality.
Yet humans often forget
Once an idea
Is treated as a taboo
That cannot be questioned
Interchangeable become our egos
We are not protecting truth at this point
Rather our strive to protect the ego
Tis the fascist placebo that brings false comfort
We live in narcissism
Relevant to our tribes
Our predilections
Often falling short to open eyes.
Yet generation's progress
And we learn
And grow
Despite nature's flawed existence.
There is a way
To know if one is wrong
And it is not based

Conquered land and war

Admittedly I have yet to read Rushdie's Satanic Verses. The poem was inspired by a quote from Christopher Hitchen's autobiography "Hitch22", the chapter on Salman, page 261, paperback, starts out with the following quote,
"A poet's work is to name the unnameable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world and stop it from going to sleep" Baal the Poet "The Satanic Verses".

Why should awards
Any accolade
Any praise
Be given to unfounded conjecture
"Truth in matters
Of religion
Is simply the opinion
That has survived"
Yet we give an Oscar
To performance
And falsely hail thus
Over substance
Opinions can never substitute
Cannot fill voids in knowledge
They can only remain
Our personal desires
Nothing deserves to survive
Once better data is in

To be mere fancy, not fact

This is an ode to an Oscar Wilde quote I just read. The quote is part of the poem in quotes. Opinions survive not because they are true by proxy of utterance or pragmatic falsification. Opinions survive because of marketing. Consensus based on testable data is the filter that weeds out personal bias.

Willful Ignorance, By Brian37
Many years ago
With my x wife
We shared a tiny
Terrace apartment
It was atop a hill
And the space
Between the front door
And the parking was narrow
And on the other side
Across the parking
Was a sheer drop
Of a hill
When driving through
This narrow strip
The parked cars
Can hide little kids
If they popped out
Quite suddenly
They could get run over
Quite easily
One day
It almost happened
A kid on his big wheel

But being startled

The following cliams
What could you see
And how would you measure them?
I have an invisible

Who insist on roles

The Fight In the Dog, by Brian37
A typical day
A little girl
Goes out to play
Unaware of the impending ambush
A Pit Bull next door
Unattended to
Managed to get loose
And attacked the poor girl
It bit her face
And could have killed her
But out of the blue
A tiny hero saved her
Honey the Chihuahua
No match for the pitt bull
Took it on anyway
Knowing the danger the girl was in
It barked long enough
For the pitt to release it's grip

Who would assign it to god

We aught to be
At the reflection
That there exists not
.....unalterable celestial despotism
That subjected us to continual surveillance ....

But long before those profound words
From the the great horseman
Were the words of Thomas Alva
Edison
"Nature made us
Nature did it all
Religion is all bunk
And all the bibles are man made."
And yet the fans
Of these cosmic despots
Try to kill the messenger
Because they are frightened
Frightened of the message
Frightened that we will
Destroy their illusion
And justly so they should be
Our switch was flipped on
And our eyes are open
We have left our shackles
And realize they never existed.
Now that we have

That many still trapped

Decided to walk to
Where I patron it

They are fully staffed

They had not enough
The line was long
And I could see in their faces

The panda's ballet
Is what I saw

While juggling the rest

To get me my order

But having been on that side

In a jazz song
I once heard
It was fancy

Somewhere on this planet
News organizations reports
All sorts of death
In all its forms
Yesterday Boston
Where an 8 year old died
Tsunamis in Japan
Tornados in the mid lands
Famine crime desease
He will do as he pleases
On the side of all
He cheers our bloodlust on
How much of a sample rate
Will suffice
To understand
What a deadbeat he is
Would we be allowed
To treat our own kids
Like the toys god
Makes us?
If I had two kids
And stuck knives or guns
In their hands
And said
"Here, have fun
Whomever is left standing
Gets to hang out with me
In heaven"
What if I feed one kid
But not the other
Let one starve
Or infected it with aids?
Not one person reading this
Can point to a point
In our species history
Where death and suffering never happened
The real deadbeat
Is not this fictional character
But humanity
And intellectual laziness
What I am blasting
Is the concept of this claimed god
And how humans end up
Believing such a horrible concept
Our time spent
Praying to the non existent
Could be used in the real world

I've heard stories
Of abuse of 9-1-1
Where people call
To complain about cold food
They waste the time
Of emergency workers
And deserve punishment
For doing so
In that same vein
On the internet people complain
About being offended
Over words or pictures
From the insight
Of a Facebook admin
Rightfully annoyed
By petty reports
Unknown to these idiots
Who cry "don't offend me"
The admins see every day
Real cries for help, people trapped in real threats
Reported rapes
And reported molesters
Victims of crime
They see all the time
And outside the web
These childish complainers
Are offended by mere words
Which offends me
You idiots care more
About words
Than real victims
Of crime, war and bloody violence
Please
Shut the fuck up
Losing a limb or your life
Hurts far more than being offended
If what I say
Bothers you that much
Simply don't read it
And move on
You make me sick
Worrying more about words
Than death and crime
The world sees all the time

I had
A feline prior
Who with age
Did expire
My X
Had named him Peyton
After the famous
Quarterback
As time does
With all life
And with age
He did expire
So distressed
As I was
I had lost
A long time friend
My friends and family
Encouraged me
To find another
To comfort me
So one day
I did just that
To an adoption charity
I had gone
In a room
Full of purrs
I found myself surrounded
And could not decide
I wanted to take them
All home with me
With all their different
Personalities
But this one guy
As small as a thimble
Parted the red sea
And ran through all of them
It was a blur
And all the sudden
A hug on my leg
By this tiny thing
He looked up
Then meowed
And I looked down and said
"I'm toast"

To let you know my current cat basically ran across a sea of cats and he was tiny, ran up to me, hugged my leg and meowed at me. So when I say "I am toast" what I mean is " how can I resist". He has been my best friend.

In our dusk
All bodies falter
As age
Is unavoidable
Five years hence
My mother and I
Found out
She has an aneurysm
Every year it has grown
And every year
The docs put off doing anything
Until now
But the side affects
Of a stint operation
Are as scary
As doing nothing
Stroke, paralyzed
And even death
Are the prospects
She has to face
Helpless I feel
Knowing it is a decision
Only she
Can make
She is healthy otherwise
Out side this issue
The prospects of all this
Are terrifying either way
She is extremely giving
And to this day
Still supports me
And spoils me
To think of her
Diminished capacity
To think of her not being there
Is terrifying
I want to tell her
What to do
I want her
To be ok
But I cant
It is that mortality
And quality of life issue
She must decide for herself

Of the Hudson landing
Should be happy
Sully said "I didn't have time"
In times of stress
Some talk to themselves

They talk to a diety

End up on these shores
Under a relentless sun
And only salt water to drink
I worked hard
To buy this boat
To sail these waters
Only to be ship wrecked

Because of a reef
A hole in my hull
Far away from civilization

No one works

No one made programs
For distress beacons
Or became National Guard rescuers

I watched a video today
In which the black dwarf Plutofile
Went on to explain
The real "end times"
In a progression
Size by size
He gave a discription
Of the distruction
That most of these cosmic pellets
Burn and break up
Doing little, if any
Harm
Yet if we had a video
Of earth's history
And could fast forward it
What we would see
The one in Russia
Is a fraction
Most of these
Cause little distruction
Yet there is a bowl
That pocks the Yucatan
That explains
The fatal shot
Our orbit
Is like beltway traffic
Most collisions
Are minor , barely scratches
But on this highway
Are tanker trucks
The size of Mt Everest
That will take us out
Such an impact
Will cause a cloud
Creating darkness
Enveloping us
With the blocked out sun
No photosynthesis
Our food source gone
Our extinction certain
There will be
No white horses
No angels
Or chariots
If life however
Gets lucky
Evolution might continue
Even without us

With a unique style
But Sagan had the skinny
All the while
We can fancy
Speculate
Guess
And claim rights
Dot dot dot
George did paint
But Sagan knew
Our importance
Grande Jatte
Sagan knew
An Island we were
And nothing more
Art is important
And abandon we should not
But as a species
We often forget
That the dots of religion
Do not build
And only distroy
And divide us
Sagan would value
What George did
But simply remind us
The most important
That we are a dot
And nothing special
In a hostile universe
With no escape
So enjoy
Sunday in the park
But don't assign it
To a meaningless god

It is too personal
We must never
Discuss a tragedy
We must be sensitive
If they want
They can
Pretend
No matter how absurd the logic
But it is ok
For Sylvia Brown
To con victims families
And give them false hope
We are the cruel ones
Who simply say
That triumph and tragedy
Are natural, not of fantasy
And it is ok
For them
To use an event
For their billboard
Damn us atheists
For saying
Neither fortune or missfortune
Are of deities
It sucks
That we know now
That epilepsy is nerological
Not a demon possession
It sucks
That we know now
That the brain does the thinking
And not the heart
It sucks
That we know now
That of our orbit
Around the sun
And for 10 years
3 girls held hostage
Raped and abused
We must not discuss
Even though
The fans of this god
Make claims of his nature
In his omniscience
For a decade
Their cosmic hero
Watched
And did nothing
But we should not
Be so insensitive
And allow them
To find comfort in credulity
Our personal tragedies
Are not special
And to varying degrees
Will always be
To state a fact
Is not advertising
It is the sound
Of reason
Placebos must die
And we must lose our fear
To insure our inquiry
Is the most accurate map
Those poor girls
Were victims of harsh reality
Not to be thought of
As pawns of a sandbox God
This horrible logic
Of mysterious ways
Or that of plans
Demeans human suffering
It reduces humans
To mere property
Mere toys
With no say to how we are treated
So when my critics
Cry foul
I say
Damned right I will
How much
Insidious ignorance
Should we tollerate
In the face of human cruelty
You breed festering boils
That allow their brains
To wallow needlessly
In the shackles of myth
Rape is not the product
Of a devil
Anymore than the vocano
Needs a virgin to placate it
To assume divine intervention
In any escape, or unfortunate death
Is to perpetuate the real cruelty
Of maintaining intellectual dishonesty
It allows humans
To make excuses
To do nothing
Than address our common condition
There is only one thing
That caused their rape
There is only one thing
That lead to their escape
REALITY
Which needs not
The infantile answers
Born out of fear
