I think I just generally hate my country

I'm an American, born and raised by patriotic parents.  I can't to call myself that.  If you spend time reading Wikileaks how can you be a proud American.  America is the worst thing to happen to the world since Nazi Germany.  We commit genocide all over the world and our news media and population cares more about Lindsey Lohan.  The fourth amendment died with the patriot act.  Now Obama has signed away our right to due process.  Julian Assange has the courage to tell the world the things our government covers up and he get's solitary confinement without any charges or trial.  How long before you get imprisoned indefinitely without a trial for saying "I hate my country."?   I'm 16, atheist, in college early.  To add insult I just finished an American government class where the instructor was constantly encouraging us to vote so our voices can be heard. At the moment I can't think of any more complaints but I could probably fill a whole page.  What the fuck do I do?

It's mostly degree of harm. For example, if someone wanders across your property for no particular reason and you shoot him/her with a weapon, whether I would support it or not largely depends on the type of weapon used. A taser, stun gun, or other type of non-lethal weapon is unlikely to cause any serious harm (though it still could be quite painful). Gunshot wounds, however, are far more likely to cause death or serious harm--the list of places you can be shot and not require expert medical attention is rather small, and gets smaller as the caliber gets bigger. So, in summary, if you shot the trespasser with a taser I would think it a bit overboard but still support it. If, however, you shot them with a gun and the wound required hospitalization, I would not support it. And, of course, if you literally blew their head off with a .50 caliber sniper round, I would definitely not support it (shooting people with outrageous weaponry is fine in video games--just not in real life).

Even for petty theft (inexpensive or easily replaceable items) I would support, though not advocate, the use of a non-lethal weapon.

My biggest concern is that no lasting, serious harm is done.

Of course, if someone physically attacks you or someone else, I think lethal force is justified, though not necessarily required. It'd be nice if even murders and rapists could be stopped without being killed and then (somehow) become good people. However, if I had to choose who would live between a rapist and his victim, I would almost certainly choose the victim. The reason I say "almost certainly" is to leave room for incredibly absurd and unlikely situations people may come up with...

The leftist here consider pretty much all property that the rich possess to be theirs, that the rich "stole" it from them. They consider all wages to be property of the government as well, to be taxed at whatever rate is necessary to ensure welfare rights. So they have this same value for the use of force, they just have a different definition of what should be considered property.

They also would consider violence in the name of getting health-care to be an act of self defence, because it's a birthright and if you don't give them free health care you are killing them. So again a difference of what is self-defense.

Taxation is the price we pay for failing to build a civilized society. The higher the tax level, the greater the failure. A centrally planned totalitarian state represents a complete defeat for the civilized world, while a totally voluntary society represents its ultimate success. --Mark Skousen

Wait, do lots of people actually think like this?

You know what would really solve a lot of problems--birth control. Would it be possible to set up some sort of voluntarily funded global advertising/education organization that advocated and provided birth control?

Another reason for me to hate religion: they tell people to have as many kids as possible. Just ignore the fact that even those couples who really want children don't necessarily have the time, ability, or resources necessary to care for them...

The leftists on this site seem to believe this way. Other leftists I've talked to think this way as well.

I don't think it would do much good voluntarily. The most irresponsible and irrational people would have the most children. It would have to mandatory in exchange for any benefits or privileges one receives from society.

The political problem is basically the left has a set of rights they demand unconditionally without being required to give back in equal proportion to society. The political right is pretty much the same they just have a different set of demands. The 'right to breed' is sacred and taboo to even talk about. While the burden to take care of everyone else's poor decisions is given to those that don't make bad choices.

Yes. Unfortunately Mr. Invisible doesn't take care of all this kids and they become the responsibility or problem for the rest of society.

Lol, at least we'll have more luck than the religious people who try to get everyone to stop having sex...

I'm guessing the strong desire for sex is a biological urge that ensures the production of children. However, since the compulsion is only to have sex, you can outsmart it by simply ensuring (or at least attempting to) that sex doesn't lead to fertilization...

To stop population growth you'd need to drop birth rates to replacement levels. If I remember correctly, that's somewhere between 1 and 2 children per couple in most industrialized countries. This still leaves plenty of room for people who really want kids to have kids.

This is pretty exciting: a real, achievable way to solve so many societal problems! I would so love to be a part of something like that!

I can't imagine the religious leaders would let such a plan be implemented without a fight...

I'm really starting to hate those ancient books...

It's OK to have sex as long as you follow the rule from their version of Mr. Big. Rick Santorum wants to give huge tax breaks and benefits for lots of children. Sounds like a socialist to me.

No. I think there is still a strong desire for children. That's why fertility clinics exist. It's why even when they have access to birth control a lot of people still have children they can't take care of.

The US and most of Europe are at or below this level. The problem is immigration driving down wages and continuing the problems of overpopulation. Also voluntary birth control just causes the irresponsible and irrational to have the most children.

blacklight915 wrote:

Yes, religion creates the environment for human misery to develop. They fight against the use of science and reason to implement solutions. Then tell us their religions are the only antidote for human misery. It would never be an easy fight to fight something so insidious.

Every activity that could potentially negatively impact others and society requires a license and financial responsibility. For example, driving a car or cutting hair. It makes sense to prove competency and show you can pay for any damages. This is how we keep incompetent, irresponsible people from ruining other people's lives.

Except there are two sacred cows, notable exceptions. One is any thing of a religious nature. So you can counsel people, teach children, run a daycare, etc... as long a you have religion with the activity.

The other is having children. Require people to prove they are competent and they can pay for all the costs. Require a licence and permission. Why treat it any differently? The punishments for breaking the rules must be sufficient to stop to offending behaviors.

If these two scacred cows could be BarBQed, this would end a lot misery.

How about ending birthright citizenship and changing welfare so that claimants only get additional money for the first two children they have? Do you think doing those two things would solve a lot of problems?

It may help a little. But the only thing that is going to solve the illegal immigration problem is jailing and fining the people that hire illegals. It seems like something the left ought to get on board with as a way to increase wages for the working poor.

Right. People believe what they want to believe in order to feel good. Stick to sex, drugs, rock-n-roll if you want to feel good. Stick to science for what to believe.

If it were me and illegal aliens even had the audacity to try to vote in a nation not THEIR OWN, they really should be shot.  That is a non violent attempt at taking over or usurping the rightful owners of that nation, not any different than if they were apart of a foreign army that rolled in with tanks and attempted to run things in a way other than what the citizens of that nation wanted.  That would be no different than if anybody would sneak into your house, raid your refrigerator, steal your money and get the passwords to your computer and then transfer money from your bank account and other tightly held accounts, change your accounts for say...cable, internet, and while they are at it, they rape your wife or daughter.  NO different.

Well, it's probably their children that vote, rather than them. Which is another reason I want to end birthright citizenship.

The army analogy you make seems a bit off. The only similarity between illegal immigration and an invasion is that you have lots people coming into your country. Illegal immigrants don't have military training or equipment. In addition, illegal immigrants aren't coming here to take over; they're just coming here to live. Illegal immigrants may cause lots of problems, but they should not be treated like an invading army.

The nation-house analogy also seems a bit off. You own your house and your land; it is your property. However, the land making up a country is not owned by any one citizen. The real problem is taxes. Since your money is your property, you're right to be upset that people who pay very little into the system can dictate how your money is used. In fact, it is justifiable to be upset when any person or organisation presumes to dictate where your money goes without your consent.

The Democratic political leader don't have an interest in actually solving the problem of low wages and poverty. If we cut out hiring of illegals and wages rose, then these people that benefit would no longer be dependant the Democrat party. This party has no interest in solving any problem, just continue the dependency upon them and they stay in power.

If Tebow had played back in the 60's and 70's, he wouldn't have lasted.  That was when the rules allowed you to play tough and be tough.  Brady may not have lasted then either.  Howie Long or Lyle Alzado or Ben Davidson would have made short work of those little dancing fairies.  Hell, Dick Butkus, even Lawrence Taylor would have dispatched their little kissy kissy game.

I tend to get very cynical

I tend to get very cynical of those who say "I hate my country" who relish in a relatively high standard of living compared with many other nations. I'm cynical of those who say "I hate capitalism" and write on websites such as this using computers and internet servers which are products of Wall Street corporate capitalist companies. I'm cynical of "champagne" socialists who fly first class or drink lattes and decry the plight of the working class.

Is there a lot of crap in the USA? Hell yes!! Everything from big business corporations with powerful lobby groups that influence which politicians get elected to Snooki making headlines for becoming pregnant. But there's crap all over the globe. But I seriously don't think that the "noble" folks who occupy Wallstreet that brandish flags of the hammer and sickle have the answer. Their experiment has been tried over and over again ad nauseum and the end result is socialism for everyone else but me.

People want 100 flavors of ice cream, trips to Disney Land, flat screen TVs, iPads, Jersey Shore, Bridezilla, Big Macs, MRIs for tension headaches, granite counter-tops, Nike shoes, bff of Paris Hilton, Kim kardashian lifestyle (other than masturbation material, she really serves no useful purpose), to get fat, plastic surgery to get thin, Jesus, gas guzzling SUVs, low gas prices, guns, porn, Angry Birds………and I can go on. And our government is merely a reflection of the masses who are addicted to all this. And when a war is about to be waged, the majority are transformed into flag waving fascist jingoists who would beat the crap out of those who are anti-war.

So the big question is why? Why are people like this? Because above all else, most people value one thing. PLEASURE! Life should be an eternal cyclical state between masturbation and orgasm. Everyone wants Aldous Huxley’s soma. Hell I’m addicted to a brand of soma.

Do you want to change society? Well walk into a MacDonald’s and convince that fat family of 4 to trash their beef patties because they indirectly contribute to CO2 emissions. See how far you’ll get.

You mean well in your opening thread and forgive my nihilism. But realistically I see no social or political transformation in this nation or any nation that would yield some utopia. Everyone will live off soma and slowly our civilization will become extinct.

Hi Opie

Hi OPie,

You see, this is the darkness of atheism. You evil bastards are communists in your heart. Europe is doing good the creepy guy said that's communism.

And hating your country is extremely extremely consistent to atheism. After all ,america is capitalistic and is free.

I should note, the decay of America in Post-Modernism is the result of liberal atheists/satanists that started agressively taking place in the early 20th century.

Theodore Rosevelt and President Wilson were huge in progressing atheistic/satanic agenda.

You see, this is the instinct of atheism. It is a feeling of reaction. The atheists caused the mess we have and the poverty of America through out nation's debt and the weakness of soceity, and then young little twirps come along and say, i hate America which is the exact thing that the atheists have been buiding.

American as it origiinally was built was good and incredibly powerful since Chriistanity's influence was so prominent. Now America we can say is indeed a pagan country.

Thus this circular reasoning I hate America and the atheists caused america this way is prominent.

You atheists are evil people, and you soon will be murderein Christians before you know it and Jews.

The Opie's thinking is similar to Hitler and Stalin and Mao in why they massacred millions.

Now that's consistent.

Great Job opie, the most consistent atheistic post I've seen on this site probably ever.

And hating your country is extremely extremely consistent to atheism. After all ,america is capitalistic and is free.

I should note, the decay of America in Post-Modernism is the result of liberal atheists/satanists that started agressively taking place in the early 20th century.

The only fucking fascist here is you asshole. Having the ability to look at the mistakes the country you live in makes helps prevent you from doing it again in the future.

AMERICA has NOT always done the right thing. It stole land from Native Americans and committed  acts of genocide to get it. It enslaved blacks and prevented women from voting. Recognizing that is not a call to fascism jackass!

I HATE that we wasted money on two wars when the pay gap here has exploded. I hate the fact that the cost of living keeps going up here but pay is stagnating or getting lower. I have every right to bitch about what we spend OUR tax dollars on just like anyone on the right does.

There are plenty of Christians who would agree with me so go fuck yourself asshole!

The right to bitch about your own government is WHY we are free FUCKFACE! You want to go live under a government run on god, go live in Iran. OTHERWISE GO FUCK YOURSELF!

You certainly are, little one. Perhaps one day you'll learn.

More projection. We really don't need to know about your micro penis. If it really bothers you that much, go see a doctor. They can fix it for you. Eye-wink

Oh cmon...you don't have to project...follow your own advice and then see a therapist for the psychological repair.  Must be a bitch for you to never get laid.

No, the only person here likely to go down that road would be you. Jews DONT believe in the Christian god, so if your god IS the vindictive prick you view him as, not only will he burn us atheists in hell, but Jews as well.

Many Jews are merely secular Jews for that matter, they like the culture but don't believe in a god. The only people a pluralistic society have to worry about are people like you who think forcing a monochromatic utopia on the rest of us will work. Go fuck yourself asshole.

Jean dont get ANY ideas about my political views, I was raised with WWII Vets around me since before I was knee-high and still in diapers.   But this is humorous (yes  light-hearted & humorous)

Boy the way Glen Miller played
Songs that made the hit parade.
Guys like us we had it made,
Those were the days.

And you knew who you were then,
Girls were girls and men were men,
Mister we could use a man
Like Herbert Hoover again.

Didn't need no welfare state,
Everybody pulled his weight.
Gee our old LaSalle ran great.
Those were the days.

In a nearby city there is a huge community of people who have immigrated here from South East Asia.  Again, why would these immigrants pack up and travel thousands of miles from there home countries just to expose themselves to a country ( America ) that you describe as "genocidal" ?

Most people run from such ghastly scenarios, not risk life and limb in all out effort to cross the border into a country such as you describe.

I agree with you, but Pillow is partially right in that America doesn't always do the right thing and we do hurt others. And that is one of the best parts about our Constitutional law, WE can bitch about what our government does. But I agree with you as well, humans generally speaking dont try to jump out of the frying pan into the fire.

We have gotten into needless wars and we have killed innocent bystanders. But admitting our nations faults does not make everything all bad, or all good.

When it comes to America,

When it comes to America, we've become the socially awkward member of the world.  We're no longer hip to just be with people for the hell of it, try to maintain decent diplomatic measures and let loose to have fun and make good stuff for our nation.  Now, we alienate anyone that disagrees with us for any reason, we're off our meds after being diagnosed with cultural schizophrenia and we can't get a decent date without paying for it out the ass later, not to mention that we're fresh out of friends and fail to make new ones despite our "best" efforts.  Maybe we just need a hug

Indeed, the good ol' US of A has, essentially, become this:

"I'm looking for, uh... [puts nail gun to the back of Jean's head] I guess you could say I just want to have a meaningful relationship with someone special." - Patrick Bateman

They already do. So do Americans. Usually at every other election, but there's a slow but steady stream of refugees all the time.

Hey Brian

Hey Brian,

Since Christianity is the birth of America via influence, and Communism is the birth of Mao and Stalin via influence, and since Mao killed Christians and stalin, and since America gave freedom to Chrisitans, history condemns your position as evil.

Also, Jew's don't believe in the same God as Christianity, what about the Apostle Paul, Peter, and the other Apostles. Also, I have many messianic jewish friends. Your emotions causes your brian to not think through things which is why you're an atheist.

Respectfully,

Jean Chauvin (Jude 3).

............ because of the great job Republicans [the Elephant people] have done with the U.S. economy since Ronald Regan the Canadian dollar has grown from $.62   U.S. per Canadian dollar to par and up [today 3/28/12, you need $1.01 U.S to equal $1 Canadian] ?   Today that most historic and traditional of all American cities, Boston Mass. [3/28/12] are heading to the playoffs with two [2] great Canadian inventions [ hockey & Basketball] at the 'TD centre' in downtown Boston. It use to be 'New Boston Garden' but TD bank bought up the nameing 'rights';   Did you know TD bank stands for Toronto Dominion Bank Ltd.? Thank you Republican party, Canada [ & other countries] thrive with your leadership;  keep up the good work [screwing your own].

Turns out thanks to Republicans Regan, Bush, Bush jr. & Bohner I own a realy big house in southern Ontario and an even bigger house/compound in South America [like most Americans I CANNOT afford to live in USA] all without having a single paycheck in the last 4 years. My six [6] siblings live in the US and at least 4 of them live in a house with a mortgage valued higher then their resale value.   Well god bless America.

Actually, the Canadian

Actually, the Canadian dollar was on par with the US dollar back in the 70's, long before the epic tumble to 59 cents that it took in the 90's. Whenever the US starts burning through their resources too quickly to keep up with production (basically whenever they start big, unnecessary, and unprofitable wars), their reliance on our economy and production skyrockets (Mexico too, but Mexico is far less stable and dependable, so we see far more benefit than do the Mexicans), and jumps our dollar significantly. This time they also dug themselves into an unprecedented debt, and came within a few hairs of totally fucking themselves over forever, so it'll be awhile before our dollar drops by any significant amount. Unless of course the Conservatives succeed in their apparent goal of having Canada follow the US into oblivion.
