Greetings from Germany

Hello Friends,

I stumbled across this site several years ago. You have an excellent article here dissecting the infamous Urban Legend regarding Einstein humiliating an atheist professor, and ever since I have your page stored in my bookmarks. However, I missed to take a closer look at the rest of the website, which I'm intending to make up. So I'm looking forward to finding many well-written and clever articles here which will surely save me a lot of typing work and frustration in the future, and probably I'll be leaving a grateful comment or two Eye-wink

Best Greetings, Athene

Our Presidents here in the

Our Presidents here in the states have had a history of looking silly when overseas. I know that you are not a jelly pastry despite what JFK said.

"Iks bin I'n Berliner",........ok ok, leave it to a Yankee to slaughter a foreign language.

Just ignore me, I like shiny objects. Welcome to the site.

It is my belief that the majority of Germany is indeed the actual tribe of Judah.

Is that meant seriously, or just some lame attempt at satire/humour?

Forgive me, you've only just started posting here, I'm trying to work out roughly where you are coming from, so I know how to respond to such somewhat cryptic statements....

Thanks for the kind welcome

Many thanks to all of you for the kind welcome Smiling

@ Brian37

Oh, the United States of America have many aspects that call for my admiration. We in Germany are far from being civilized enough to own a Constitution that doesn't claim a "responsibility before God", let alone explicitly stating religious neutrality like the American one. Despite the many setbacks in and after the Cold War, this will always be a milestone in the history of liberty and democracy. Also, while you proudly defend the First and Second Amendment, we value censorship and defenseless submission under the right of the mighty in contrast. And hey, you landed on the moon forty years ago, how awesome is that? Science for the win!

Regarding JFK, I assure you that "Ich bin ein Berliner" is correct, too. It is right that you use to leave out the article, but you can include it without distorting the meaning. Actually, if you speak in a figurative sense, you even have to include the article. JFK's speech was great, the doughnut-reference is just an urban legend *gg* To make things worse, "Berliner" aren't called "Berliner" everywhere in Germany. In Berlin and East Germany they are referred to "Pfannkuchen" (pancakes), and pancakes are called "Eierkuchen" (egg cakes). Quite confusing when you hear that for the first time, even for Germans. In case you are interested, here is an incomplete list (in German) with the different names in the different regions: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regionale_K%C3%BCchenbegriffe .

And talking about butchering a foreign language, may I present our Foreign Minister? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLYGPWQ0VjY . I guess we are lucky that he rudely refuses to answer questions in English at German Press conferences...

@ BobSpence1

I'm afraid to disappoint you, but I don't really like beer at all. I prefer sweet wines and cocktails Eye-wink

@ Specialist

Uhm...sorry, but I don't get it either?

This is what I try to tell my American atheist friends, some of what Europe does makes sense. Livable wages, plenty of time off, low wage gap between the highest and lowest paid. Free health care and often free college education. But your political correctness scares the shit out of me.

No offense, but your beer sucks.Don't feel bad, I razz Bob Spence from Australia about his fucked up Animals. How the hell Koala bears survived as slow as they are, is beyond me. And what is up with those pouches? And you cant even swim in their oceans because of all the deadly jelly fish and snakes and salt water crocks.

And the bastard cant even come  up with an original constitution. He has to rip off ours.

(note to self; I hope Bob isn't reading this. Did I think this, or type it?)

@Bob, I think he is kidding. But if he wasn't it wouldn't matter to me, the end result is that there are no "chosen people". Hitler got bitch slapped for thinking that, and I think even Jews, Muslims and Christians should be bitch slapped for even suggesting it.

Humans came from other humans prior and as long as someone is fertile and they can fuck they can produce a baby. There are no races or religions, there are merely humans who use that as an excuse to feel superior.

 Athene, if you stay around

Athene, if you stay around here for a while you will have to  get accustomed to Brian37.... be careful you don't take him too seriously, but be prepared to be surprised at the insightful stuff he does come up with much more often than you might expect.

Oh, and I am not a beer drinker, and now that I think about it , the only beers I have drunk or tasted in any amount were both German, AFAIK - one was in Augsburg, one was in Namibia. So I dunno what I should think about that.
