A straight forward remark

The bible was written in a time where leprosy was common, starvation was rampant, chattal slavery was everywhere, there were many proverbial con artists and snake oil salesmen running about, and natural phenomena existed primarily without a scientific explanation, because Romans despised the Hellenistic Greeks, and their way of living.

So show a lil' patience, mmmkkkkaaaayyyy???

“A meritocratic society is one in which inequalities of wealth and social position solely reflect the unequal distribution of merit or skills amongst human beings, or are based upon factors beyond human control, for example luck or chance. Such a society is socially just because individuals are judged not by their gender, the colour of their skin or their religion, but according to their talents and willingness to work, or on what Martin Luther King called 'the content of their character'. By extension, social equality is unjust because it treats unequal individuals equally.” "Political Ideologies" by Andrew Heywood (2003)

You don't think a millenium and a half is long enough to learn that snake oil doesn't do shit?

I agree with you sentiment!  BUT!!!!!!   Romans did NOT despise the Greeks,  They adored Greek culture. Highbrow Romans spoke Greek among themselves they only used Latin in public forums.   Greeks thrived under the Roman empire even as slaves they were the tutors, doctors, artists, stewards no Roman aristocrat would live without at least one educated Greek serving their family.  Greeks were so valued in the civil service and military and so respected that the entire Eastern Empire became Greek speaking.  Then out lasted the Latin speaking Western half by 1000 years.

"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."

Placebos can still kill the pain.

Taxation is the price we pay for failing to build a civilized society. The higher the tax level, the greater the failure. A centrally planned totalitarian state represents a complete defeat for the civilized world, while a totally voluntary society represents its ultimate success. --Mark Skousen

This post makes baby jesus cry.

Some romans adored greeks, the rest simply kept them as slaves to fulfill the needs of the patricians, plebians, nobles that did not own land, et cetera. Before Julius became became Emperor... the greeks were simply the barbaric, primitive ancestors of the Roman Republic. Some of them fought FIERCELY against the Roman Legions... and lost. Thusly, healers, theatre actors, and "philosopher kings" were sternly looked down upon and given 2nd-class citizenship, in a way.

Of course they did... AFTER Cleopatra, Marc Antony, Julius, and of course, Augustus Caesar. Until then... they were simply the unenviable conquered city-states that made up Alexander's Empire. Naturally, after Alexander died, his Empire broke up into three distinct states... one for each of his most influential generals. To have a person's kingdom sliced up and sold to the highest (or most cunning) bidder was simply unthinkable to the Romans.

And yes, they did create a highly Christian kingdom known as the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantines... had good trade routes, as well as cultural, philosophical, military and religious influence.... but they ultimately LOST to Sultan Osmon. Because, y'know, those upstart lords and ladies can become extremely troublesome when your 'empire' is barely hanging on to power by a thread.

And I'll stop my post on that note.

Why not just rave it up using X (ecstacy), liquid X (GHB), shrooms, speedballs... especially the speedballs. They kill a lot more than just pain...
