Television : The Enemy

We all know how much of a impact the TV has on people,my mother was one of them, she always slept with the boob tube on,she was addicted to it's sound to help her fall asleep. There can be some good shows that educate you, like " The Learning ch.,Nova;Science Now,The History ch. and some good comic humor on Comedy Central,Nature is also good along with a few other PBS programs, and then you got Democracy Now ! on LINK TV and some other shows that inform you of subjects that the main stream media don't play, but must people are into " America's Idol,Dancing with the star's , and all of these stupid " Reality Shows " and some really dumb sitcoms like Melrose Place etc. Here's a good study about the TVs effect on society  www.brasschecktv.com/page/695.html

In my opinion, TV is a

In my opinion, TV is a strategic technology and should be classified as such. Millions of people sleep in front of it and have the TV content shoved into their brains subconsciously. Then they wake up and do as they're told. Not always, but statistically there is a great effect.  Needless to say, that the greatest TV networks are owned by several people who either know each other personally, or as a colleagues in their common business.
This is why I only pick some serials in TV to watch something during my daily workout and to educate myself about scandalous manners of the spoilt western brats from Melrose Place. And I have only 2 channels anyway Sticking out tongue

I'll watch the video later, I can't right now.

I haven't watched TV in

I haven't watched TV in years. It goes in the background at a friends place or restaurant maybe, but I only pay attention if there's a hockey game playing. TV worth watching, I watch on the net: commercial free, uninterrupted, and at my leisure. My TV is used primarily as all should be: for games.

Well Luminon, since you like

Well Luminon, since you like Melrose, you will quite possibly like some of our other reality type shows.  I would suggest that you check into Clerks X and the followup Clerks 2.

I personally don't, but the marketing does. If it wouldn't be effective, they wouldn't spend countless millions of dollars on perfectly refined psychological effects in their commercials. And other millions on statistics. Of course, you and me may be resistant, but statistically someone will go and buy the shit, influenced by the commercials. And there are of course cases of obsessive buying.

Yes, I am, good guess! Smiling Actually, I have never watched it much, it was on local TV like 10 years ago. I only mentioned it as an example... Neither I watch Beverly Hills 90210, neither the Texas Roundkick Massacre (with Chuck Norris), because it's extremely cheesy.

I prefer stuff like Star Gate, and the 1994 version of Superman has some good actors. But that's like a hour per day. If this topic would be "Computer: The enemy", then I would be surely among the enemy's lines.

Bad guess... I basically don't know what MP is about, only a few memories from 10 years ago. Anyway, I almost stopped watching TV, when there is a computer available. I prefer e-books and games. I also write and make games.

But I saw Clerks 2 recently and I have to say that this version of South Park with live actors is something... Well, I know it's full of shit and other body fluids, but in some other moments it's also funny as hell. Except of moments that leave the viewer speechless, but I try to take them as positives.

:o

I have a 40" TV. I have never used it for standard broadcasting though. My PS3, 360, and Wii are plugged into it. I play games and watch movies with friends.

I don't see much value in most standard broadcasting, beyond a few shows that I can watch online and cartoons.

But now even cartoon network has gone to reality programming... :I

Good plot, story, characters, acting, and continuity. A touch of epic and a great soundtrack seals the deal, but it has to be done well, and without much low brow crap. I put up with it as a price to pay for variety, but if it ever becomes the focus I lose interest. Southpark is the perfect example to use. Many many episodes are very intelligent and funny. But there are a few that are just running fart jokes that make me want to strangle the entire creative team, starting with Matt and Trey.

No, I didn't watch the video. After two runs through high school English and a run through college Psychology (on top of 30 years of my own observations and deliberations), I know all I need to about all the 'quirks' of TV.

Is the problem television or the people who watch it?

French fries, porn, beer, TV, the internet, etc.. are all the enemy damaging the human psyche, right? So the individual who masturbates, drinks and eats fast food with moderation, watches Bill Moyers on PBS and reads ZNET online is also a "victim"? We all have that special something....oh what is it.......? Hmmmmm, what could it be........?

Is it...........CHOICE!!?!?!?!

Folks who regularly consume the garbage on TV from Fox News to Paris Hilton's BFF or Jon and Kate are mentally fit only for such garbage. They have no desire to turn off the TV and read a good book by Proust. TV is not the enemy. The "enemy" is from within and already there from the start.

BTW, saw the youtube video. The speakers seem to be hyperreligious in their pseudoscientific claims of the evil of TV. The radiation from the TV has manipulated the guy's sister to fall asleep. LMFAO!!!!!! And isn't Youtube just as "one dimensional" as television that these folks are condemning? Isn't it contradictory that they are condemning one form of "one dimensional" medium with another? Chalk up another one for the Irrational Response Squad.

TV sucks. Except for Family

TV sucks. Except for Family Guy. And reruns of Roseanne. But other than those two shows, it sucks.

Oh, I almost forgot.....I also like Wheel of Fortune. And Jay Leno.  And of course, it aint Thanksgiving without the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. And FOOTBALL!! I LOVE FOOTBALL!!

But that's it. Everything else sucks.

Oh yeah....I love "the Grinch" and "Cheaters."  And those insurance commercials with that little lizard are hilarious.  And I think it goes without saying that "Cops" is the best show on TV. Except of course for "The Big Bang Theory." That's my favorite show of all time.

But everything else sucks. People who watch TV are morons.

Well I got your drift, but I disagree with your assessment of the video, and what was that....CHOICE!!?!?!?! In my opinion, the video was made to make a certain point about consumption, garbage in garbage out.If we choose to watch Bill Moyer and look at Znet,we should also have enough brain cells not to eat junk food. And masturbating has no relevance to this topic. And I do think that the boob tube is the enemy, and it's not the 'within that is already there',cause if that were true, this 'within' that you refer to was there before the invention of the TV,and what did the thinking impaired people do then, bang their heads against the wall ???
