Wife Beater.

Has anyone here ever thought the story of the great flood makes God look like a wife beater? He beats the human race nearly to death and claims he loves us, and he didn't want to but we made him do it because we didn't listen. Sounds like every wife beater I've ever had the displeasure of hearing.

After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him.

The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut.

 I've always thought that

I've always thought that the entire Christian religion sounds like an abusive husband and a helpless wife with low self esteem.

I mean, really... God basically punishes man arbitrarily for various sins of his own declaration, and tells us that he is doing it out of love.  After he's punished us (sometimes severely) he demands that we tell him how much we love him.   Anything bad that happens -- anything at all -- is our fault because God always has our best interests at heart.  Doubting him is a sin.  Trusting ourselves is a sin.  Thinking of ourselves as anything but unworthy is a sin.

Sounds like an abusive husband to me.

Atheism isn't a lot like religion at all. Unless by "religion" you mean "not religion". --Ciarin

If the word woman is

If the word woman is replaced with 'christian' on this web page: What is Battered Woman's Syndrome? It almost fits perfectly.

There are four general characteristics of the syndrome:
1. The christian believes that the violence was her fault.
2. The christian has an inability to place the responsibility for the violence elsewhere.
3. The christian fears for her life and/or her children's lives.
4. The christian has an irrational belief that the abuser is omnipresent and omniscient.

Also from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battered_person_syndrome

Quote:
Battered person syndrome is a physical and psychological condition that is classified as ICD-9 code 995.81 "Battered person syndrome" NEC. The condition is the basis for the battered woman defence that has been used in cases of physically and psychologically abused women who have killed their abusers.

People who think there is something they refer to as god don't ask enough questions.

Oh, definitely. The Bible is

Oh, definitely. The Bible is a creepy book. God is a possessive, abusive, bipolar character. And we're lucky to be mirrored in his image!

*Our world is far more complex than the rigid structure we want to assign to it, and we will probably never fully understand it.*

Classic battered wife

Classic battered wife behavior is also to return to the abusive spouse because he says "Everything will be different from now on." (Post-flood rainbow)

After so many times of getting beat down(see alleged jewish history), if they go back then I gotta think they like it after all.

What's the first thing a christian does after they get home from work? Pray if they know what's good for them.

[See for reference battered wife joke #11: What's the first thing a battered wife does when she gets home from work? The dishes, if she knows what's good for her.]

This is kind of harsh subject matter. If anyone is in an abusive domestic relationship, please e-mail/message me through this site. I have friends that work with Hope House locally that can get help and/or offer friendship to you no matter what your situation is. Religion or lack of it is not an issue. You don't have to PRAY that he won't hit you anymore.

I thought you added that last one in until I clicked the link. Fits like a glove.

Wait a sec... If I have a glove that doesn't fit, does it still fit like a glove?

 Hey, you guys forget that

Hey, you guys forget that guys can be abused too:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2003-06-22-abuse-usat_x.htm

I dated a girl  who used to physically attack me; It sucked big time 'cause my Dad used to beat the shit out of my Mom and the idea is just completely repulsive to me, so I would just stare at her dumdfounded, like WTF?.

I also knew another girl who would complain  her past boyfriends would hit her and I actually witnessed her attacking one of my friends "windmill" style and when he pushed her off she said "See! He hit me!". True story.

That said I agree with the OP about god. He's lame. I packed my stuff and moved to mother's years ago. Couldn't take it.

Eden had a 25% murder rate and incest was rampant.

I LOL'd

It does happen. My "dad" was assaulted by his wife a lot. One night he had been drinking and he decided he had had enough of her hitting him that day. He shoved her off of him and she stumbled face first into a wall. She had been drinking too. She called the police and was promptly escorted to jail. Luckily for him my brother and I were there to witness her being the only aggressor in the situation. If we hadn't been there to give statements he would've been in a lot of trouble. You're right there is a huge double standard there, but it's what we would expect. Men and women are treated differently in almost everything.
