As few of you know I am Polish who live and work in Cardiff, Wales. On daily basis I am meeting with different reactions when people get know that I am a Pole. However lately one made my day. Curious customer when he heard that I am Polish said with exaltation:"I love Polish people ! John Pole, John Pole !" and something about Sunday crowd in Cardiff's Polish Church. I didn't have time for small talk so I just smiled and said something like: "Good to know".

On the way home I start to wonder who the hell is John Pole ?! I managed to exclude all known to me writers, artist ( where was one in polish history with surname Pole, but he lived in Italy ) and I came to conclusion...it has to be a football ( soccer ) player ! Because I am completely ignorant when it comes to football/soccer, I asked at home my polish house mate:

“Who the Hell is John Pole ?!”

He looked at me stunned and burst out laughing. I waited a second enjoying myself with my mint tea and asked:

“What is so funny ?” and I took another sip.

“He didn't mean John Pole, you fool, but John Paul, John Paul The Second !”

I don't need to say that I had to make another cup of tea, do I ?

I have reached another level of religious oblivion.
