Waste of time?

Spent the morning attending an orientation session with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR,) which is designed to help people with disabilities find gainful employment. I really am not sure what disability I can claim to have, but my family seems to think I have one. I am sure that this process will prove to be as useful as any other I am currently engaged in, so I guess time will tell what benefit I will derive from it. At the very least, it will get my sister off my back.

 Well, what does your

Well, what does your sister think to be the issue?

Past that, are you earning a perfectly good paycheck that you are happy with?

Money. She wants to get me

Money. She wants to get me "classified" so that I would be eligible for state aid.

 Let me guess, your sister

Let me guess, your sister probably thinks that you cannot be trusted to manage your money, so once she gets you classified, she can then try to run you through probate court.  The eventual goal being to get herself declared your conservator.

As a psychiatric social worker, I see this kind of nonsense all the time.

She want's to control your money out of a power motive most likely as the amount of cash you would get from the government is too small for other games.

Alternatively, if there is someone in your family who might leave you a decent chunk of cash, then she wants to lay the ground work for eventually managing your money because she will legally be entitled to take a small percentage of the investment income as a fee for her services.

There are definitely control

There are definitely control issues at play here - oldest sister, youngest brother in a brood of eight. The amount of my mother's estate was negligible, and it was taken by Medicaid anyway so none of my family really saw any of it anyway.

At this time, I can not afford to live on my own, and have stayed at a cousin's house, and 4 different siblings houses 1-2 months at a time all year. If I could land a decent job, I would happily and immediately move out on my own. That is my goal for this year.
