UPGRADING SITE LATE NIGHT FRIDAY FEB 22nd [updated]

Just letting you guys know that every site on the network will be down today for about 3 hours, probably beginning in the late afternoon. The new server should be arriving at the location and up and running by tonight. Yay!

For more info, see this post and this one .

UPDATE FRIDAY FEB 1st 11:48 pm est. RRS site and network sites will go down for several hours starting soon. The final stages of prep are being complete, final tests being run, and we're ready for lift off within an hour or two. All of the data will be transferred to our new home. Some sites around the world will get the site online before others. The whole process may keep your particular area out of the loop for up to a day, but normally isn't longer than several hours.

New RRS Network sites coming soon! (site will be up and down for a few days)

Over the next week or two you're going to see drastic changes to our network.  You'll see new site designs, new color changes, and new sites coming on board. Don't get too excited or attached to any one feature, we could have to scrap a feature or color set at anypoint to put something more compatible in its place.

ALL OF THE SITES ARE BEING UPGRADED AND OVERHAULED.  PLEASE HANG IN THERE WITH US AS WE PREPARE FOR CONSIDERABLE GROWTH.

Theism, semantics, and mental disorders

In the recent storm of debate over whether theism is a mental disorder, I've noticed an interesting word game being played. Those who disapprove of our label are suggesting that theism is not a mental disorder, and that anyone who does something in the name of religion was insane to begin with.

I'd like to remind all of the atheists who object to "Theism is a Mind Disorder" to remember a particular logical fallacy -- No True Scotsman. Let's look at a hypothetical dialog.

1) Theism is a mind disorder.

2) No it isn't.

1) Look at what Joe did. He cut his hand off in the name of religion.

2) He's really crazy. That's not because of theism.

1) Ok, fine. But look at Iran. They've been cutting hands off for centuries in the name of religion.

2) Yeah, but the people who do that are really crazy. That's not because of theism.

New Year, New Developments, How You Can Help

First, I'd like to wish everyone a slightly belated Happy New Year from everyone at RRS. You all have our best wishes for a brighter future. You can rest assured that we are working harder than ever to help make a brighter future for everyone -- a future where religion doesn't loom like the boogey-man from nightmares, and children can grow up learning how to think for themselves.

Sapient has been working round the clock for many days now. I don't want to completely spoil the surprise, but there are a lot of really exciting things on the horizon. Many of the server issues we have been experiencing are due to the fact that the server is soon going to be upgraded, and we'll be converting to a faster, easier to use server. Look for better load times, easier user functions, and significantly more subscriber benefits! We'll also have much more user-friendly mod functions, which will make everyone's experience better.

We currently rank as the most popular atheist website in America, and it's going to get better.

Thanks to everyone who has generously supported us in the previous year. We literally couldn't do it without you. If you're not yet a member, please consider as part of your New Years resolutions helping us rid the world of theism. For the cost of a movie night or a pizza delivery per month, you can help us reach literally millions of people!

I am sorry for losing the last 20 hours of data

Hey folks... as we ehance and grow with the site, we work very hard to ensure that all content created by the users stays in tact.  Unfortunatly we lost about 20 hours of data today when we neede to restore the site to our last backup to fix a bunch of errors I created today by trying to enhance the site.  Sticking out tongue

Sorry about that.

Coming soon is enhanced subscriber functionality over free member.... theme changes for paying members, blogs for subscribers only, and more.

Become a subscriber for as cheap as $3 per month for enhanced board options.
