Quick thought

Since you can do pretty much what every you want and then ask god for forgiveness, and be forgiven. Can I ask god for forgiveness for being an atheist? Can I tell him I'm sorry he failed?

I promise I won't tell anybody of his failure.

Not So

The idea behind christianity is dying to self-sinful-will and commiting life to Jesus Christ. This is what salvation is. Salvation kills the old self and creates a new. This transformation turns an individuals desires from sin, to serving God. Do Christians make mistakes? Of course we are in a world filled with sin and temptation. If our hearts lament over mistakes, longing rather to serve God, do we find forgiveness from God? Yes. Do we escape Judgement? No.  No one escapes Judgement.  God's nature is just.  Because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God's wrath will be avoided by Christians, but on Judgement day, all will have to give an account for their lives on Earth.  All.  The difference is whether or not, God's wrath follows.
