Like this new logo?

I've been working with a friend on a logo for the new website.  I've done tons of tweaking on this and really like where it's at.  I would like to know you're thoughts.  It might be more appropriate to refer to this as a header design for the site.

New logo

I think it looks great! What would making just the A in rational in all red look like, and leave everything else the same. Just curious. But still love it!

Joe

seemed forced

nope.. if you're gonna add something, it has to be instantly relative to the rest of the logo. You don't want it to look like a collage.

Logo cohesiveness

Interesting idea.

The logo type with the second line kerned out to match the first works ok. I kind of like the star trek like quality to the "A" and the badge-like quality (I don't know why it makes me think of a badge.)

But:

* It doesn't scan well. It is a mish-mash of styles and looks like three separate logos. Each has a different feel, color and edge treatment. The type is very square, the swash A is round and spikey and the evolution diagram is rough and distorted.

* There isn't enough separation between the "Rational Responders" text and the swash A.

* The human evolution graphic doesn't meld with the rest of the logo. The emboss and texture are a kludge to try and compensate for a lack of a coherent design and don't work.

* The swash A looks a bit like an ampersand.

I get what you are trying to do, combining the Rational Responders text with a spiffy variation on the atheist A along with a reference to your science-based approach in the evolution graphic. As it stands I think you are trying to combine too many ideas. Rather than try to make your graphic tell your whole story, simplify your graphic and use consistent branding to get people to associate it with your story. If you aren't comfortable with that, then I'd say you should come up with a way to integrate the A concept with the evolution picture so they form a cohesive rather than separate looking design.

If it were me, I'd leave out

If it were me, I'd leave out the evolving illustration; it's overused.  I'd put something more unique.  Other than that, it's a very simple and effective design so far.

edit:  You know, come to think of it, it DOES look like a Star Trek logo...

I don't like the big A in

I don't like the big A in the background. Looks like Star Trek related stuff.

The "evolution" image looks like the primate is evolving in to a zombie.

Over all I'd say "you can do better".

 I like my logos simpler

I like my logos simpler and more symbolic, here are two variations of what you put up, keep in mind I pulled these out of my ass in less then half an hour, if you are interested I can get you the pre-layer merged Gimp images.

Awesome logo is awesome.

Awesome logo is awesome. That is that can be said about it. That is all anyone could possibly know about it.

“A meritocratic society is one in which inequalities of wealth and social position solely reflect the unequal distribution of merit or skills amongst human beings, or are based upon factors beyond human control, for example luck or chance. Such a society is socially just because individuals are judged not by their gender, the colour of their skin or their religion, but according to their talents and willingness to work, or on what Martin Luther King called 'the content of their character'. By extension, social equality is unjust because it treats unequal individuals equally.” "Political Ideologies" by Andrew Heywood (2003)

I also feel that the

I also feel that the evolution picture is overused and makes the whole thing too busy. I like the A in the background, but maybe a different color.

Perhaps, if there was some clever way to incorporate the pro-science message into "Rational Responders" or the "A."........

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare

@ KtuluI like the circle A

@ Ktulu

I like the circle A on the side. I don't think you even need the super imposed version in back. Your idea makes for a much cleaner design that scans well, though I think I'd stretch out the spacing on "Responders" more like in the original.

One quick way to evaluate a logo is to see if it works in Black and White (Or "single color&quotEye-wink, to see if the general shape of the logo, as opposed to the fancy emboss effects and textures, works. Your circle A on the side (without the superimposed giant A) works well in that respect (though I'd adjust the thickness of the circle A and the text to be a better match for eachother). The logo in the OP fails that test.

You gotta keep it simple

Hi Brian, I know you're not asking for advice, but as a design professional for the past 25 yrs I don't think you're on winner there. It's far too complicated, there is too much competition for attention which makes it impossible to remember. The most effective and memorable logos are always simple, when there is less to remember there is less to forget! Strong simple shapes and colours are the way to go.

I do have some ideas if you'd like to see them, I'm happy to donate my time.

enzo,I'm all eyes.  Post em

enzo,

I'm all eyes.  Post em right here if you can.

Not suggesting this is it.

But something as simple as this should be the goal. It won't date so fast and has more of a lasting impression. The evolve illustration has been done to death and nobody really owns it, it's just part of the visual pollution out there.

Having a unique symbol like this or something like it means you'll be remembered. It's meaning is quite simple, Rational Responders ultimate goal is an Atheist World.

Just remember, a logo can't say too much. It should be nothing more than visual mark that identifies an organisation.

P.S. It would make a great Tshirt.

Cool concept Brian.Maybe

Cool concept Brian.

Maybe we'll use the advanced polling functions of the new site to help pick a winner if a few designs become available.  I'm very open to all sorts of designs and ideas here.

Once again... the badge isn't going anywhere, but I'd like a new logo that represents an image difference that I think is necessary in society today.  There is a different feeling in the world today than there was 6-7 years ago.

Brian, do you remember your role in the name Rational Response Squad?  I don't remember the story exactly right now, but I think it's awesome how you've been around since that time and are here by my side today coming up with logo ideas.  Thanks.

I remember you telling me

I remember you telling me that we had a conversation about creating a name and I was a third responsible for part of the entire name, but do I remember our exact conversation? No. That was back when I was still living in VA.

And as far as being by your side, what can I say.  You have provided, not just me, but countless atheists a voice. Now excuse me, I have a kitten to barbecue.

This is how it would look on

This is how it would look on a T Shirt, it can be white on black (as shown) or in reverse. All other applications are according to needs, brochures, websites, web banners etc, it will work across many formats.

An old idea. New approach

It's been done a million times, but this is just a re-hash to make it more contemporary.

It probably has been

It probably has been overdone also, but what about a circle with a cut out cross, to symbolize no religion as the main focus of rational response.  Kind of like the no smoking sign but with a cross.  It would put the atheism thing right at the front of the symbol

Unlike Atheism, there is no unifying symbol of all religion. I like the concept, but not the cross. You need to express disgust for all religions to be "confrontational", perhaps? (never was good about that last part)

Ya, you're right. but that sends the message across the most I think.  Especially on this forum.  Over 90% of the forum is dedicated to Christianity pro or con.

Nice logos.  I'm still open to ideas if anyone is considering making something.  The more the merrier.  We can always use them for banners and just give people a choice.

You should get rid of the monkey to man part of the logo. Basically an oxymoron having that right next to the word rational Smiling

just now seeing this.  i

just now seeing this.  i have a couple nitpicks:

the "A" logo looks a lot like the symbol of the federation in star trek.

usually a capital "A" in a circle is associated with anarchism.  i for one have never seen it associated with atheism till now.  it might throw some people.

"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."
