Questions for Sam Harris (best question wins a movie)

Sam Harris has committed to appearing on the Rational Response Squad in conjunction with the release of his new book "Letter to a Christian Nation." His appearance will air Friday September 22nd, the book is released on the 19th. As with all of our shows, it will be prerecorded. We'll allow you another behind the scenes look and listen during the recording session on September 9th, at 1pm est/10am pst. After the Sam Harris interview we'll record more shows, so plan on making a day out of it. Look for our homepage to have a stickam portal on September 9th. Keep in mind, the stickam audio can be choppy and is by no means intended to be a replacement for our Friday night show, this is just a "favor" to our friends/supporters/fans.

Rebuttal to George Galloway's argument for Sapient

George Galloway stated that:

Quote:
...I'm merely saying that we shouln't be beating up on religion when the problem is not the religion but the behavior of the people who profess to believe in it.

Sapient's response:

Quote:
Well that's very true I believe in that.

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with both of you on that.

Sapient, it appears you have been propagandized too.

What people do in religion's name is not a different argument. People make up the religion, not the other way around!

On the contrary, most religions (especially Judeo-Christian religions) not only honor violence but demands it. To not realize this indicates that you have no knowledge of the Torah, Bible or the Koran, much less the history of these religions.

This cd is a hoot! You can listen to it online. Be sure to play #5.

Guest suggestion - Dean Edell

He has a call-in medical show, and is the author of a lot of books. He never really comes out and says he's athiest, but he pokes fun at the stupidity of theists (christian scientists not getting immunizations is causing an outbreak of measles, guy dies in lions den saying god will save him, etc.) on almost every show.

Sean Berk, spoken word poet/artist friend of Sapient

More to come in this thread. Here are the lyrics to the poem read on tonights show.

cell division (december 20th) Sean Berk

i blame you for catholicizing my childhood
and for ostracizing my father for how he stood
in the middle of your choir loft
-his Jewish voice giving new meaning to
your cathedral hymns

while my mother played the role of silent saint
in pastel hospital scrubs-
her stethoscope-her crucifix breathing life
into lungs of drug addicts and geriatric hypochondriacs
in a 20 year loop of emergency room drama they could

David Swanson appears briefly on RRS - great article

David Swanson runs www.afterdowningstreet.org. We recently recorded a segment with him to run in an upcoming episode. We spoke mostly about potential impending attacks on Iran, however we touched on his atheism. He recently wrote an excellent article, pointed out to me by one of the stations our show runs on www.progressiveblendradio.com.

Here is the article:

With the exception of Jews and African-Americans, no demographic group in the United States voted more heavily against Bush and for Gore and Kerry than did atheists, who make up 10 percent of the electorate. Atheists tend to be disproportionately progressive. So do atheistic countries.

Show Suggestion: Scientology

I was checking out the Operation Clambake website and thought Scientology would make an interesting show. I'm not sure if the guy that runs that site, Andreas Heldal-Lund, would go on or not and he lives in Norway, but he seems well spoken and knows his stuff about it. Getting a Scientologist on could be fun, and maybe an ex-Scientologist. It's kind of a fringe cult, but it's getting a ton of press with Tom Cruise these days, and most people don't know much about it.

Never heard from Sapient - bad email?

I sent an email to Sapient with a possible show guest, and never heard a peep from him for over a week. What email should I use? or just PM?

Quote:

The Truth, of Tha Non Conformists, is spreading deep messages of truth in a world full of lies. Ultimately, it is messages like these that could help shape a better world for us all. In a genre that has become saturated with materialism and ignorance, this rap artist stands apart from his peers. The Truth's music serves as inspiration for movements of equality, change, and progression. Hence the name of his coming new album Movement Music. In addition to being a skilled and visionary rapper, he is an activist first and foremost. In 2006, The Truth met Relentless and Natural Disaster, the two other members of his group. Though shrouded in mystery, (the group claims to reside in a location referred to only as "Outside the Box"Eye-wink Tha Non Conformists music speaks volumes about what they represent. While bringing sonic mastery and skills comparable to or better than the most well known rappers, their music also gives you inspiration to do your part to help change the world. To listen to The Truth and Tha Non Conformists is to listen to what music is supposed to be - a venting outward of soulful expression - with a burning desire to make an impact on the world.
