Hip Hop and Spoken Word activist appearing soon- Jared Paul
Jared Paul is a social worker and from Providence, RI. In 2004 after years of local and national performances Jared traveled the U.S. on the 32 venue DIY Fight The Tide Tour registering poets in various spoken word communities to vote and raise awareness about voter fraud. The tour was swallowed and redirected when it met up with the Sage Francis FUCK CLEAR CHANNEL TOUR featuring Grand Buffet and Mac Lethal in South Carolina. Jared stayed with the FCC tour for an additional 20 dates, helping to register over a thousand people to vote, and assisted in spreading the word about the danger?s of the corrupt, money driven, and community destroying media ownership empire ?Clear Channel.? Jared was next enlisted as a featured hip hop/spoken word act for all 40 date?s on Sage Francis?s 2005 ?A Health Distrust Tour.? He has opened for Saul Williams and Sole, and played on the same bill as Atmosphere and Immortal Technique.
In between the U.S. and the UK Jared has attended over a hundred national/local protests , marches, and rallies; Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Providence, Boston, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Albuquerque, San Francisco, and London. Whether anti war protests (before and after the invasion of Iraq), picketing office buildings down town with the Janitors Union, marching with Native Americans through the streets of Plymouth for The Day of Mourning (thanksgiving), placing police under citizens arrest with The Black Tea Society for attempted kidnap at the 2004 DNC, lobbying World Bank Delegates in D.C., or forming peace plea lines with RI Defend?s Choice while radical anti choicers assault clinics; the world is on fire and the battle has many fronts.
Jared was arrested along with hundreds of other concerned citizens while walking silently in a sidewalk peace vigil from Ground Zero to City Hall in New York City during the 2004 Republican National Convention. He was taken to a warehouse called Pier 57 with razor wire lined cells and detained without access to a lawyer, food, or phone call for 26 hours. At the arraignment Jared plead not guilty and all charges were dropped; he is now part of a major class action lawsuit currently underway with The National Lawyers Guild. Jared and other member?s of SEMIprose for Artistic Journalism covered the entire RNC for his WRIU 90.3FM News program The Agenda. The Agenda and it?s staff reported live from both the 2004 Republican and Democratic National Conventions respectively and later dedicated each of it?s weekly broadcast?s from Nov.-Feb. to covering election fraud and voting anomalies during the 2004 election. In March of 2005, The Agenda stepped aside in order to run Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman in it?s Sunday night time slot.
The MANICexpressive Agenda is:
I. Recycling is Important
II. Go Vegan!
III. Consider Adopting a Child
IV. Voting; based on research
We have a relationship with everything we touch; our goods, who makes them, how those people are treated, how the goods are transported, and how the whole process affects their respective ecosystems. With this in mind, Jared avoids purchasing any goods that are not Fair Trade certified; no coffee, tea, chocolate, sugar, etc?
Jared has been vegan for 9 years and does not drink alcohol or smoke anything. Factory Farming destroys the environment, perpetrates severe and unnatural suffering against living creatures, and decimates working class farmers. No if, and?s, or but?s about it.
