Zeeboe vs. Todd Friel

So I finally called The Way of the Master Radio and spoke with Todd Friel on the radio. We had a very nice civil discussion/debate about Christianity.

I told him I was agnostic and that I did believe a higher power might exist, but I wanted to know why I should believe in the Christian God.

I brought up The Rational Response Squad, The God Who Wasn't There DVD, why I believe following God is like a mental illness and he had no response to any of that.

I brought up how there is no evidence that Jesus exist and he said that the bible was the evidence. His whole argument was that the bible is proof of God's existence. And I brought up all the contradictions, how the bible supports stoning people to death, the Jewish argument why Jesus wasn't the messiah and so on.
And he also brought up (for no reason) why God was real by looking at creation...even though I did tell him a few times I never said I didn't believe in God. I wanna know why we should follow the Christian God and when he started talking about creationism, I got a little bold and cut him off and nicely told him again that I never said I didn't believe in a higher power.....I had a feeling he was going to try and start a creationism vs. evoultuion debate, but I stopped him because I knew I'd get owned because I don't know enough about evoultuion to defend it.

In the end, nothing really came out of the debate. He encouraged me to study other religions and that he believed Jesus will speak to me.

The whole debate was pretty similar to the RRS/Way of the Master debate....and I'm not trying to be bias, but I think I won the debate because he couldn't answer any of my harder questions and kept using the bible as his tool for everything.

In closing, I've seen plenty of religious and atheism debates and taken part in a few and you can literally debate about it until the cows come home. So Todd and I pretty much agreed to disagree and we both agreed that I still need to do some more studying before declaring myself an agonistic.

Todd's a very kind, smart man and I have nothing but respect for him and nothing negative to say about him. He treated me with nothing but respect and even told me he thought I was very smart and he enjoyed talking with me.

I told him how I plan to read the evidence bible and he said he'd send it to me for free, along with some other stuff which I thought was very, very nice of him. I would have bought the evidence bible beforehand but it's a little pricey and I gotta save, so I was very grateful and appreciative that Todd is giving that book to me.
So Todd...(or anyone who works for him)....if you're out ther lurking this forum for some reason....I still like you a lot dude! You're very cool, funny and smart. I hope we can talk again and thanks for the book.

Sounds like you pwned him.

Sounds like you pwned him. Saying the BuyBull is proof of the Christian God is pure idiocy.

I think I did too, because

I think I did too, because as nice as he was...he didn't convince me that the Christian God was real and his arguments is the same old arguments I've heard before. And I thought it was funny that he had nothing to say about The Rational Response Squad or the God Who Wasn't There DVD, and that his entire debating tool was the bible.Truth be told, I could have done better myself in the debate but I think I got my point across and I think I represented the RRS fairly, and I hope his Christian listeners learned a thing or two as well when some of the stuff I brought up.I really don't wanna diss on Todd at all. He was nothing but kind to me and I appreciated him talking to me and sending me the book for free. I will read the evidence bible or whatever else he sends me and will keep an open mind and maybe I'll call him again one day.

 I can remove this thread

I can remove this thread but you've established yourself here with your original name.  We'd like to make it as easy as possible for everyone to follow along and changing your name might be confusing to some people.

i'm not a mod or anything,

i'm not a mod or anything, nor do i have any sort of vested interest in this thread (after all, it was started before i ever came to this site), but why would you want it deleted? do you regret speaking so kindly of todd friel or what? if so, i'm reminded of alex haley's conclusion to malcolm x's autobiography, where he writes about malcolm, after leaving the nation of islam, demanding that much of his earlier praise of elijah muhammad be removed from the manuscript. haley encouraged him to leave it as it was, because it showed his development with perfect frankness. after several minutes' thought, malcolm x agreed and it was left as it was, thank goodness.

"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."

Back.

It's along those lines.

Thank you Brian. If you could erase the thread, I'd really appreciate it.
