Might as well introduce myself.

I hate not cutting to the chase, so here we go. LIFESTORY TIME AHOOOY.
I've lived a military life for most of it, except for these last two years (College and what not). Having lived all across Europe, Texas, and then in Oklahoma (Lawton, to be exact), you'd expect me to have SOME sort of knowledge of what Christianity was, AT LEAST when I moved to Texas. That couldn't be further from the truth.
While I knew what religion was, it was never forced on me. It was also something I didn't really care about.
So, I moved to Oklahoma and lived in a small (read very small) town right outside of Lawton, Oklahoma. Boy, did my life change. My first day of school could be comparable to the first level of Hell. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY either asked me if I was a Christian OR if I was going to church this Wednsday. The answer I told them all was "No." From then on out I was a social outcast at school, a complete first to me.
This got me thinking. "What the hell is this whole religion about, anyway?" So I decided to go to their Church one day. I was given a free bible (my first of many) and I began reading it. Right off the bat I noticed how absolutely stupid it sounded and related the whole story of creation to Rumplestilskin, or whatever the stories called.
The more I read, the more I couldn't believe that these people believed this, however, I persisted to see if there was indeed something more to it as they all hinted.
I stayed "with" the church for about 3 years, right up to the point I headed to College. Although the reason I stayed was purely sexual (what with a relationship and all), I still stayed, and I feel dirty
I had no idea that groups like this existed up untill I joined (which was a while back I believe), however, I've been busy so I couldn't really 'get into it.' Having found some videos of Richard Dawkins talking at a university, I remembered this site and came back.
Anywho, that about sums it up. That is, besides how I knew that people weren't evil from the fact that I had never done anything wrong before or after the preacher gave a sermon about how people are evil. WHO'DA THUNK IT.

Welcome, CrimsonEdge!
We're glad you found the RRS and look forward to hearing your contributions.
As for the small-town Midwestern thing, yup, it's "Glad to meet you. What church do you attend?" If you say you don't attend church, they're just certain you're looking for one.
*sigh*
