Fuel for indignant atheists, Jesus/Buddha was early atheism.

Overload ... Much of this has probably been posted etc. but ,

I'd like to see an expanding organized list of favorite sites, quotes, videos etc, in one RRS Headline location especially for "newcomers" and for easy reference. Like a "welcome page", and how to use this site. ( I heard sapient is over worked, and I'm not up to the job. Anyhow I hope some might enjoy the following .... don't confuse arrogance with indignation.)

Google "Jesus was atheist" , http://richarddawkins.net/article,20,Atheists-for-Jesus,Richard-Dawkins

Google "Atheist are smarter", lots of cool sites, even rrs is there, http://www.google.com/search?q=Atheist+are+smarter&hl=en&start=0&sa=N

Atheist Nation, Are Religious People Smarter? Video, 6 mins. , text over classical music , http://www.atheistnation.net/video/?video/00834/atheist/are-religious-people-smarter/  at -3.27 min , yeah Bertrad Russell ... etc.

The site of Travis J. Denneson is worthwhile, Nietzsche on Jesus/Buddha, Nietzsche's "The Antichrist " http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/travis_denneson/antichrist.html

Basics: Buddha was an important ancient teacher of early "atheistic" philosophy going against the major superstitious religion of his time , and very much like the "atheistic Jesus" message/story which got so perverted. Jews/Xians/Islamists have been creating midrash for thousands of years, and still do so today. Crazy fantastic elaborations of simple atheistic Jesus philosophy perverted into a Holy Bible scripture book of hocus pocus dogma. Damn council of Nicene, making bible Saul/Paul's formulations nearly half the NT. Xians are mostly Paulines, and anti-Jesus, radically altering Jesus atheistic philosophy. (?)

Thomas Jefferson "Among the sayings and discourses imputed to him [Jesus] by his biographers, I find many passages of fine imagination, correct morality, and of the most lovely benevolence; and others again of so much ignorance, so much absurdity, so much untruth, charlatanism, and imposture, as to pronounce it impossible that such contradictions should have proceeded from the same being".

Buddhist words and their meanings. http://kadampa.org/en/reference/glossary-of-buddhist-terms/

----- http://dharma.ncf.ca/faqs/glossary.html

Buddha, A being who has completely abandoned all delusions and their imprints. In general, ‘Buddha’ means ‘Awakened One’, someone who has awakened from the sleep of ignorance and sees things as they really are. ( ring any atheist bells ? )

Nirvana, Sanskrit word for ‘liberation’.

Ontology , In philosophy, the branch of metaphysics that deals with the notion of Being per se, as opposed to specific instances of it (such as God). Buddhist philosophy is somewhat allergic to the notion of Being in the sense of Western and/or Hindu philosophy, so most of what passes for ontological discourse in other philosophies would be considered unintelligible in Buddhism.

Reincarnation, isn't even listed. It simply meant the "recycle" of all energy/matter. Old superstitious sounding interpretations were story telling and aphorisms, and often funny and of course misunderstood .... as there's always the crazys in every crowd ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphorism  Nietzsche used alot of aphorisms, an aphorist is someone who produces or collects aphorisms. Famous aphorists also include: See long list, The Dalai Lama , Albert Einstein , Samuel Johnson , Mark Twain , etc .....

Google, Buddhists are Atheists ?

The Life of.Buddha, BBC Video, 50 mins, the fascinating story of Prince Siddhartha and the spiritual transformation that turned him into the Buddha ( "a cherished wise man" ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2NLQGrbf5U

Core Buddhism teaches that there is no abraham type God or Gods. The myth is that this necessarily means all atheists are "nihilistic". Not me, becoming worm food is meaningfull and I love life and feel a purpose of eliminating all unnecessary pain.

Seems Jean-Paul Sartre and Nietzsche freaked people out addressing nihilistic philosophy; but Nietzsche said what he didn't like about religion and xians was that they were nihilistic . ( remember poster Jim Smith? "Questions about the mind disorder of theism", http://www.rationalresponders.com/forum/sapient/kill_em_with_kindness/10614 )
