Eastern Religions

Hi, I am new to this siteSmile.  After being on the fence for many years, I have come to conclusion that Christianity, Islam, and Judaism are false.  I remain undecided on the plausibility of religions, such as Hinduism and BuddhismUndecided.  Faith in the big three simply cannot coexist with my scientific understandings, but the later religions seem to fit perfectly fine with my understanding of the universe.  Is there anyone who is well versed in these religions who can shed some light on this matter.

Although I do not profess to

Although I do not profess to be very familiar with Eastern religious canons any more than Western ones, I am, you will find, quite familiar with the scientific understanding and I am quite sure that Hindu Cosmology, being the propogate of a cyclical oscillating universe, is not compatible with it. Modern Cosmology has demonstrated this to be false.

"Physical reality” isn’t some arbitrary demarcation. It is defined in terms of what we can systematically investigate, directly or not, by means of our senses. It is preposterous to assert that the process of systematic scientific reasoning arbitrarily excludes “non-physical explanations” because the very notion of “non-physical explanation” is contradictory.

You're questioning

You're questioning Hinduism?  Yeah, so the ganges river dropped from heaven on the head of siva to spread out the water and save them from the destruction of "the gift"... there's also some contractions in their larger goal of liberation conflicting with the other "limited" three... and don't get me started on reincarnation.

Tell me more about your understandings that can exist within Hinduism and I'll go on.   Not an expert on it or anything but it is the most blatently selfish religion I have come across to date.

  .... Yup more lost

.... Yup more lost posts, so again,

Fundys messin up Buddhism, as humans will

The Four Kinds of Buddhism Today http://www.amtb.org.tw/e-bud/releases/4kinds.htm

Yes, Textom "The evidence for reincarnation is not good ...... "

Hell it's silly and an insult to Buddhism and the sad reason freethinkers dismiss and miss out on the xlint "Feel Good" wisdom of Buddhism. Buddhism is zero superstition and fully embraces science.

The perversion of simple non-superstitous 'reincarnation' is a major unfortunate wall for rational thinkers, and not the original Buddha teaching.

The original idea was nothing more than the recycling of matter/energy, but it got turned into cute storys, which then foolishly mixed with superstition.

Because of this, many buddhists have dropped the word altogether.

Take what you like toss the rest, you are buddha too !

http://online.sfsu.edu/~rone/Buddhism/footsteps.htm

Atheists are buddha like. Jesus and Muhammad were "probably" Buddha like ???

God of abe worshippers need serious help.

The Buddha realized that that he was not the first to become a Buddha. "There have been many Buddhas before me and will be many Buddhas in the future," -

Basically Buddhism is common sense against superstition. It was a big step forward in ancient times. We haven't come far enough, as even today people call themselves Christians etc. Buddhism is not a religion in that sense, but more of a commitment to the education of understanding the true face of life and the universe, joining philosophy and science

Check out these cool videos, I found searching Buddha sites,

"The Machine is Us/ing Us" , 4 min http://www.dharmaflix.com/wiki/The_Machine_is_Us/ing_Us

Buddha Rising 3 min National Geographic http://www.dharmaflix.com/wiki/Buddha_Rising

"The Holographic Universe" , 6 min http://www.dharmaflix.com/wiki/The_Holographic_Universe

wow >>> Surviving the Singularity 20 min http://www.dharmaflix.com/wiki/Surviving_the_Singularity , evolution of consciousness and the foundations of mathematics available at www.WhatWillBe.com

The Life of.Buddha, 50 mins, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2NLQGrbf5U

Cool reading here, "Understanding Hinduism" , Hindus' on the horror and stupidity of Christianity.

Please read this xlint essay, "Why a Hindu Accepts Christ
and Rejects Churchianity" and send to the xains .....

http://www.hinduism.co.za/jesus.htm

Even understanding why the cow was sacred is not so strange. It's milk and cheese fed the people.

Hinduism seems less crazy than god of abe religions ??? Please remember that fundys and radicals, and crazies ruin about everything .....

Gandhi was a cool "progressive" hindhu. We westerners are so religiously uneducated and prejudice, and arrogant. ..... Gandhi said, I like Jesus but you xains are so unlike jesus ....

This is a off topic but so cool from, todangst Gandhi VS God on Morality

My Dictionary:

religion |rɪˌlɪdʒ(ə)n|
noun
the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, esp. a personal God or gods

OK, not all 'religions' necessarily believe in God(s) as such, but 'Belief in God' is rather close to a definition of a rather common form of religion, especially if expressed as 'Belief in God', as distinct from "belief that there is some higher, 'god-like' power". Maybe there is a bit of a caveat there if you don't actually worship God.

Favorite oxymorons: Gospel Truth, Rational Supernaturalist, Business Ethics, Christian Morality

"Theology is now little more than a branch of human ignorance. Indeed, it is ignorance with wings." - Sam Harris

The path to Truth lies via careful study of reality, not the dreams of our fallible minds - me

^^^^ I like how you put

^^^^ I like how you put that.

I think I am ready to go cold turkey. I think that religion has been a crutch that I have leant upon so that I did not have to really examine my own code of ethics.

By disregarding a belief in

By disregarding a belief in God because you don't identify with certain religions is throwing the baby out with the bath water.

I am choosing not to believe

I am choosing not to believe in god because I think it is failed product of previous attempts to explain the events of our world. A world that we now realize is much more complicated than we suspected previously.  I do believe that meditation and introspection can be powerful tools for personal change.
