Yet again our media fails us

Just read the article. I've searched google for this story but only find it on one major news outlet.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/08/25/beaten-man-restaurant/14598819/

http://blog.gulflive.com/mississippi-press-news/2014/08/man_beaten_at_mississippi_rest.html

Why is CNN or any other major media org not running this story. Is it because the media doesn't want to "get people all worked up"?

Then why is CNN posting an audio tape of the "11 shots fired" from a person claiming to have been doing a video chat and recorded the "11 shots"???

I listened to the video and I'm convinced that it is a complete fake.

It is related to Furgeson. They are reporting EVERY THING related to Furgeson and have the fake audio recording which hasn't even been verified yet. Where is the responisble journalism? Don't they verify this shit before they release it.

Not in America. Fast food

Not in America. Fast food journalism. Every single time I watch American 'news' I see lies and mistakes trotted about. It's in Canada too, though not quite as widespread. Yet.

I am disgusted with the media. I think I'm done with watching news from American sources. While I've always had outside sources to show a more world view on news I believe that I can no longer trust American media.

welcome to 1997.

"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."

By my memory, that's about

By my memory, that's about the time I gave up on US media. Though I think the downward spiral started when CNN started their 24 hour news network.

basically what i meant was, if you're just now giving up on american media, you're way behind.

still, ditto what vastet said. 1997 was the apex of the pre-9/11 golden age of american tabloid news: princess di's death, the lewinsky scandal, the jonbenet ramsey scandal, etc. the thing is, a lot of people talk about how 9/11 changed all that: it made us "grow up" as a country and start caring about "real news" again. bullshit. yeah, the subject matter may be more serious, but the reporting techniques have only grown more pornographic.

imo, news reporting of any integrity in america died with edward r. murrow.

Ah. Well I stopped liking 24 hours news when the first Iraq war started, so 1991? It wasn't until I got the Roku box that I was completely cut off to it.

The Media.

 Ah.. the Media,

I gave up pretty much totally on the commercial media many years ago.

Here in Australia we have had an alternative in the 'ABC', originally the Australian Broadcasting Company, which became a 'Commission' when thw Federal government got involved, and currently a 'Corporation'. Not sure exactly how its current business model works, but at least they don't have advertisements interrupting the programs, whether News or anything else. I have long been pretty dedicated to their News broadcasts and other related programs to keep me informed, but in recent years I have moved more to BBC programs available online directly or as podcasts. The only News sources from the US I follow at all consistently are from PBS and NPR.

I have pretty much completely abandoned commercial sources, whatever the country of origin.

I have been pretty satisfied with the audio and video coverage by the BBC of the recent Ferguson events.

I should say that I there are some excellent commercial US sources which cover selected news events, such as the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, and now John Oliver's "Last Week Tonight".

Favorite oxymorons: Gospel Truth, Rational Supernaturalist, Business Ethics, Christian Morality

"Theology is now little more than a branch of human ignorance. Indeed, it is ignorance with wings." - Sam Harris

The path to Truth lies via careful study of reality, not the dreams of our fallible minds - me

From the sublime to the ridiculous: Science -> Philosophy -> Theology

I watch the BBC but also get NPR and they often have BBC related reports. NPR is the only radio broadcast I listen to for news.

I watch the Daily show and Colbert Report often and have yet to see John Oliver's version of news.

It really speaks volumes

It really speaks volumes that the best American news shows today are comedies.

I remember when I was growing up and they had news reports about when Reagan was shot. The news was really news then and it wasn't this 24 hour drama, in your face until you vomit opinion pieces.

Given that this is a video tape and was never given to the public live (as they might today) I remember being glued to the TV when this was reported. Then they went back to their regular scheduled program and you were left waiting for Cronkite at the 6pm news hour.

That was news. It wasn't an opinion. It was allowed to unfold in front of you with out some movie producer in the background manipulating it.
