Sleep walking research: 29% of adults have experienced it in their lifetime

Excerpts:

Quote:
For this study, the first to use a large, representative sample of the U.S. general population to demonstrate the number of sleepwalkers, the researchers also aimed to evaluate the importance of medication use and mental disorders associated with sleepwalking. Ohayon and his colleagues secured a sample of 19,136 individuals from 15 states and then used phone surveys to gather information on participants' mental health, medical history and medication use.

Quote:
The researchers determined that as many as 3.6 percent of the sample reported at least one episode of sleepwalking in the previous year, with 1 percent saying they had two or more episodes in a month. Because of the number of respondents who reported having episodes during childhood or adolescence, lifetime prevalence of sleepwalking was found to be 29.2 percent.

Reputedly, I was

Reputedly, I was sleepwalking once. It was on junior half of the basic school and our class was at a "school in nature" for two weeks. We slept in rooms with about 3 beds.

Once in the morning my friend told me that at night I went out of my bed, stood in the middle of the room and called for mommy to return. Then I went back to the bed again. It must have creeped the hell out of him, I suppose. I was surprised too, because I wasn't homesick and didn't miss my mom at all. I didn't even have a dream, I only dreamt of blackness, like closed eyes. (and maybe some movement, I don't know)

It's hard to tell what it was about, but he was a good friend and wouldn't lie to me. So I suppose it happened as he said. But it was just once, nobody ever told me I'd walk or talk in my sleep again.

Btw Vastet, the link you posted points to some article on astronomy.

Sleepwalking runs in my

Sleepwalking runs in my family.  I have an uncle and aunt that did it when they were young, I did it frequently when I was young, and my 8 year old daughter has done it a few times.

Oops lol. Fixed.

Only time I know that I sleep walked was when I was still a teen living at home. Went to bed early one night after a hockey game and martial arts took most of my evening. Mom decided to call me for dinner anyway, and I went. Had dinner, glaring at people and hogging dishes to myself along the way, and then went back to bed, all the while I was asleep.

She never called me for dinner again, when I'd had a long day, after that. Sticking out tongue

i sleep-walked fairly often

i sleep-walked fairly often as a teenager, usually accompanying night terrors.  i had night terrors at least once a month, which scared the shit out of my little brother.

i remember when my night terrors started...with a bang.  i was 11 and i had three in one night.  i remember the first one i dreamed there was a mouth with rows of needle-like teeth that opened in my mattress, right beside me.  the second a saw an enormous red spider above me.  the night terrors continued, with diminishing frequency, until i was 19 or 20.

i still startle easily at night.  my wife is sometimes afraid to touch me when i'm sleeping because i often jump out of bed, incoherently demanding to know what's going on.

"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."

What's even worse than

What's even worse than sleepwalking is "sexmonia".  Initiating and engaging in sex while asleep.  I've jumped my wife dozens of times in the middle night over the years with no memory of it.   Oddly enough, though, I didn't ever do that before I met her.  Even when I lived with an old girlfriend once for over a year.

My sister-in-law told me years ago that my brother did it to her as well.

There was a news article back several years ago about a middle aged Australian woman who was sleepwalking, would leave her house, and engage in sex with strangers.   Her and her boyfriend first began to realize something was odd when they were finding used condoms laying around.   Yikes!

.

Whenever I read these sensationalist headlines I note the missing statistic. In this case what percentage experienced it more than once.

Jews stole the land. The owners want it back. That is all anyone needs to know about Israel. That is all there is to know about Israel.
