World to End on the 21st

Hope you've got your tin-foil hats folded and ready.

http://www.familyradio.com/index2.html <-- This would be just another amusing little footnote in the ongoing saga of crazy things spouted by 'ol Harold Camping (who has set all kinds of 'ZOMG END OF TIMES THIS TIME I'M SURE OF IT 100%!' dates before)... except that this time around, the son of a bitch has actually convinced a number of extremely gullible listeners to wholly surrender their financial security. And a lot of these people have children that are now going to pay the price for their parents' negligence and Mr. Camping's deceit.

This isn't some small-time outfit, either: Family Radio (Camping's 'business') has gone laughing all the way to bank, collecting millions of dollars from listeners and various other sponsors (strangely, the impending rapture & doom of the material planet has not compelled Mr. Camping to cease accepting money or to begin donating away his vast wealth).

I certainly would like a Christian to explain this to me, without just some hand-waving and trying to dismiss Camping as a fringe crackpot: How is it that your apparently lovely, morally pure religion is such a vector for this sort of disease? How is it that people like Mr. Camping, and organizations like Family Radio, can become multi-million dollar entities by having a Bible ride shotgun with their disgusting messages? Do you not see this as a fundamental problem with vague superstitions?

Quote:
"Natasha has just come up to the window from the courtyard and opened it wider so that the air may enter more freely into my room. I can see the bright green strip of grass beneath the wall, and the clear blue sky above the wall, and sunlight everywhere. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression and violence, and enjoy it to the full."

May 21st is judgement

May 21st is judgement day.... how will you judge all the people who are stupid enough to believe that on May 21st a Rapture will happen?

Given the rapture is meant to

be a total fucking surprise, it's difficult to see how some earth-bound tosspot could get wind of the lord's plans to whisk his minions off to playschool before heaven's PR machine had even mailed the press releases. What this proves is the gullibility of humans and their overpowering need to have an explanation, no matter how stupid, for those mental itches that are hardest to scratch.

Nice video.  I know people who thought the world was going to end - and it didn't.  And they didn't wise up.  Sad.

I just got in two tins of ammo for my 91/30's and about 400 rounds for my pistol. I'm ready for the zombie fight.

Maybe I'll buy a couple extra can's of dog food and tune up my armored dune buggy.

They illustrate the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

I used to scan the sky daily when I was a Christian looking for a small gray cloud which is what the Adventist told me I would see and it would be Jesus coming back to make everything right. Does some weird stuff to your head.

Wonder why theists seem so obsessed with seeing this world destroyed ? I thought god gave Noah the rainbow as a contract that he was not going to do that anymore ? Oh yeah, god has been known to be very dishonest and rather insane on many occasions.

Anyone remember when Oral Roberts claimed that if he did not raise so many millions of dollars, that god was gonna take him away ? How do people fall for this stuff ?

for most of them, it's nothing more nor less than the sick fucking desire to have the ultimate "i told ya so" moment, when all those people who "persecuted" (read: disagreed with) them will be oh-so-very-sorry.

that's one of the reasons why i turned my back on religion: i'm just naturally a live-and-let-live, i'm-ok-you're-ok person, and religion wanted me to be an asshole.  true, i was supposed say i loved everybody and that i desperately wanted them in heaven with me, and even occasionally give some sandwiches to some homeless people or something and feel really good about myself and how my faith was making me a better person and this was the proof, but deep down i was supposed to be a fucking dick.  there's no other way to describe a person who is ok with the notion that the majority of people who ever lived will suffer for eternity--indeed, believes that's good and right.  i just couldn't be an asshole anymore.

oh, btw, the rainbow meant god wouldn't do it again with water.

"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."

I would love for this to be true, then I could say hey Angelina Jolie, could you give a condemned man a blowjob before he dies?

But knowing that this is superstitious bullshit, that and Angelina Jolie wouldn't give me the time of day, I'm going to value reality and internet porn.

But if someone really believes this bullshit, and thinks they wont need anything past the 21rst, hand your deed to your house to me and your bank account number, if you are so fucking sure. But if it fails, which it will, don't ask for it back sucker.

Quote:A former civil

Quote:
A former civil engineer who fancies himself an eschatologist, in 1992 Harold Camping gained some national attention when he predicted 1994 as the End of Days. As obviously this did not happen, in true Millerite tradition the apocalypse was postponed until 2011. Camping is founder and president of Family Stations, Inc., which owns and operates a network of over 50 mostly-FM radio stations, broadcasting exclusively Christian fundamentalist programming. Since 1961 Camping has hosted Open Forum, a live call-in talk show. Among his teachings are that all organized churches are apostate, and that believers should abandon their church and form fellowships centered exclusively around Camping's theories.

Hope this helps somewhat...

“A meritocratic society is one in which inequalities of wealth and social position solely reflect the unequal distribution of merit or skills amongst human beings, or are based upon factors beyond human control, for example luck or chance. Such a society is socially just because individuals are judged not by their gender, the colour of their skin or their religion, but according to their talents and willingness to work, or on what Martin Luther King called 'the content of their character'. By extension, social equality is unjust because it treats unequal individuals equally.” "Political Ideologies" by Andrew Heywood (2003)

Go play the original Resident Evil, that is the closest thing in reality you can do without letting your brains fall out like these "end times" nutjobs. I loved shooting the zombies.

Funny, but my x-wife could not play that game in the dark. Too spooky for her. lol. Sometimes I put it on and played it at night just so I could her say, "Please turn that off". Phd in microbiology and she gets spooked by video games.

I would love to know if

I would love to know if anything can be done (beyond ridicule of course) on may 22 or 23? If the world still is here, and of course they have advertised and stated on billboards around the world, what can be done in a more financial sense, you now to discourage such bloody nonsense from happening again? Personally I would love to sue them for false advertisement, but they don't operate out of the Toronto area at all, they just put billboards up.

None of my chrisitan friend have taken this seriously, they believe it to be a joke, but still, I know this con-artist has taken money from other people using their fear of death and of course their gullible beliefs in the bible and made millions. Con-artists like camping should be thrown in jail and have to financially repay all those that he has conned.

........Latincanuck.  Benny Hinn is a local; to us. Edumakated right here in the GTA.  From a bible collage of course not a real one.  But have you noticed that these so called Faith healers  never come HERE!!!! GTA is one of the biggest money markets in the world and yet these money hungry bastards never come HERE!!!!  Ontario law will not allow half the crappolla these SOB's try to pull off.  Hinn, Popov and these other faith healers would end up in gaol if they tried that crap HERE!!!  In Ontario it is called 'practicing medicine without a liscience,'   they  know it better then anyone, ergo they forgo the financial benifits in order to avoid  gaol time.

 Hinn has been to toronto

Hinn has been to toronto at the rogers centre, I don't think he performed any faith healing, however CBC was all over him and trying to get actual medical documents and to verify his claims of healing the sick, even more they were going to be there if he did any faith healing to get the names of the people and try to verify their claims that they were actually sick and that they were actually healed, oddly enough he never performed one that evening.

At least the believers can ride up to heaven knowing that their beloved pets will be well cared for...for a price of course!  Although, I'm not sure how many xtians would trust their pets to an "atheist organization".

Humans are pretty annoying. I am thinking I can understand now why God would only want a few representatives of his failed design. He probably is largely embarrassed, but wants a few around to be the butt of his jokes. And doing so who would you pick if you were God? Wouldn't it be the most gullible? They will believe everything you say no matter how many times you contradict yourself. Hey Stupid, I coming back today....ah, psych.... Hey dopey, I love you more than anything else in the universe enough to kill myself...all the angels start bursting out in laughter, ribbing each other and these humans don't get the joke is on them. Yes, heaven it will be a wonderful place. Where is Rod Serling when you need him. It would make a wonderful Twilight Zone.

 I've been working on this

I've been working on this project for work for a couple of weeks now, if the world ends on the 21st I will be so pissed.  On the other hand, I have to clean my  basement, it's a freaking mess... I won't have to do that.  I guess there's always a silver lining.

I've actually been listening to him on radio. It does make for good theater. He has said in New Zealand a 6PM so I think you should expect news of a great earthquake around 2AM if you want to stay up. He acutally plans on listening to news reports of the end all day until it reaches California. Apparently the rapture is going to happen in time zones, God being a respector of the zones humans invented.

In a lot of ways, I respect him more than most Christians. It seems like if one actually believed the bible as they claim, they would be like Camping and spend all their time and money on it. Plus he takes calls from his critics and tries to answer them. To me it is hilarious how other Christians protray him as a nut but only because he doesn't understand the bible as well as they do. But I don't think you'd ever find anyone that has studied the bible and looked for hidden codes and message as much a Mr. Camping, they're all just as nutty.

Taxation is the price we pay for failing to build a civilized society. The higher the tax level, the greater the failure. A centrally planned totalitarian state represents a complete defeat for the civilized world, while a totally voluntary society represents its ultimate success. --Mark Skousen

http://worldwide.familyradio.org/en/PDFS/ip_en.pdf The link is to his website where u can download irrefutable evidence that the world will end at saturday, read it and weep - it's so far fetched it's kinda ridicolous!

Camping claims the rapture will begin at 6PM your local time on 5-21. That's midnight EDT. The 1st place for this to begin is in the Pacific, where Christmas Island is located. The farce is hours away from blowing up in Camping's face.

Hello

Hello,

There are many cults in Chrisitanity, this is expected and discussed in Scripture.

My local Atheist Meetup

My local Atheist Meetup group has delayed our normal Saturday Night Social to this weekend to celebrate the climax of another theistic idiocy.

We are calling it the "Welcome back, Jesus!" party, starting at 7:30pm.

It's 10:30am on the 21st here right now as I type.

Well bob from what i have read, it is supposed to start around 6pm New Zealand time and work it's way westward hitting every time zone at 6pm, so technically speaking you should be getting it tomorrow at 6pm and should be one of the last places to be hit with the EARTHWIDE earthquake

Odd...I saw an interview

Odd...I saw an interview with the guy and he said it would be a massive earthquake, which suggests it'll be one event rather than a timezone-oriented thing...

Jean,Christianity IS a

Jean,

Christianity IS a collection of cults...with no objective criterion to decide which, if any, is the 'true' one.

Just as 'scripture' is a collection of the thoughts of a bunch of ignorant deluded primitives....

My wife and I are watching Disco Hell (That 70's Show), so I guess the Rapture went down as planned and we are receiving our punishment. Smiling

One of my co-workers said I could have her house. So I really want this rapture to happen now because I'll own two houses if this happens. COOL!

Since everything at the bottom of the world works backwards, and is upside down, the rapture works in reverse.
