Saddam Hussein was better for Christians in Iraq(LINK). Wonder how the American Christians feel a/that?

"They saw their brethren murdered during Mass and then were bombed in their homes as they mourned. Al-Qaida vowed to hunt them down. Now the Christian community of Iraq, almost as old as the religion itself, is sensing a clear message: It is time to leave.

Since the Oct. 31 bloodbath in their Baghdad church, Iraqi Christians have been fleeing Sunni Muslim extremists who view them as nonbelievers and agents of the West. At a time when Christians in various parts of the Muslim world are feeling pressured, Iraqi Christians are approaching their grimmest Christmas since the U.S.-led invasion of 2003 and wondering if they have any future in their native land.

They have suffered repeated violence and harassment since 2003, when the interreligious peace rigidly enforced by Saddam Hussein fell apart. But the attack on Our Lady of Salvation in which 68 people died appears to have been a tipping point that has driven many to flee northward to the Kurdish enclave while seeking asylum in the U.S. and elsewhere."

Saddam Hussein knew how to enforce security better that the coalition forces do.  He kept those extremists in check since he'd torture and/or kill them if they got out of line.

Now they have nothing to fear and they view Christians as their enemy just because they exist.

I wonder how Repukes feel about fellow Christians getting killed in Iraq? They probably don't care since they're not white but fundie Christians would care.

In both cases: "oh, that's terrible!" followed by a few obligatory attempts at emotional masturbation, then some hollow gestures of generosity.

“A meritocratic society is one in which inequalities of wealth and social position solely reflect the unequal distribution of merit or skills amongst human beings, or are based upon factors beyond human control, for example luck or chance. Such a society is socially just because individuals are judged not by their gender, the colour of their skin or their religion, but according to their talents and willingness to work, or on what Martin Luther King called 'the content of their character'. By extension, social equality is unjust because it treats unequal individuals equally.” "Political Ideologies" by Andrew Heywood (2003)

The irony is the so called "Butcher of Baghdad" did a lot better job protecting Christians than U.S. and coalition forces can do!  When Saddam was in power Christians could even walk the streets safely late at night but these days there have been reports of attacks, killings, and kidnappings even during broad DAYLIGHT!

A fundie Christian like George W. Bush just chooses to ignore this. I'm sure he mostly cares about only his kind of Christians anyway!

Bush jr isn't in office, and the guy that currently is has shown he prefers politics over principles.

But it's because of BUSH that we're in Iraq to begin with.  A Democratic president like Gore would not have invaded Iraq since they had nothing to do with 9/11 and the 9/11 Commission Report itself said that.

Plus Bush didn't care in 2003 that the hundreds of THOUSANDS of Christians in Iraq would be in grave danger without the protection of Saddam Hussein.  If he really cared about the Christians there he would've realized Hussein gives them a lot better protection that he could.
