How the new atheist fail to understaand what religion really means.

I was just reading an excerpt from Karen Armstrong's new book ' A case for God ' here's a quote 'Science can give you a diagnosis of cancer. It can even cure your disease. But it cannot touch your grief and disappointment, nor can it help you to die well.   Let me give my take on her statement. No#1,yes Karen, Science can even cure your disease and religion can't do a F<>king thing like that. No# 2,And in my opinion,Science can help you deal with grief and die well by providing you with knowledge (not superstition) about the cycle of life that must end in death. A lot of people think that this blowhard Karen Armstrong is very knowledgeable in her quest for the meaning of religion. But,I think that she's an ass wipe and needs to grow-up .

i'm really disappointed to read such tripe from karen armstrong.  i remember being quite satisfied with her biography of muhammad.  why the fuck does everyone disappoint me eventually???

"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."

Easy there Mr. Scientist, I'm a recently deconverted.

I never thought there were corners in my mind until I was told to stand in one.

I have learned so much, thanks for keeping it real RRS.

 Karen Armstrong is a hack.

Karen Armstrong is a hack.  Her argument is very old, and very tired.

It's also distinctly untrue, factually.  We have this entire branch of science called "Psychology" that's in the business of understanding how and why people think and feel, and how to alter those thoughts and feelings.  There's also this thing called "Pharmacology" which attempts to do the same things with drugs.

So no, Karen.  You're just wrong.

Atheism isn't a lot like religion at all. Unless by "religion" you mean "not religion". --Ciarin

One thing that is pleasing

Is the stupid lengths theists (sorry FuryCat) must increasingly go to prove their invisible entity exists - including lamo justifications like this one.

There must be a god because science can't quell my fear of dying.

Oh, sure - finally, I'm convinced.

Another possibility is that Karen has

Been around theists so long that she's starting to display symptoms of empathy...
