The statue of Liberty... Oops Shaka?

Now wtf? They want to build a statue of Shaka (zulu king) that is 13 meters higher than the statue of Liberty in South Africa. Nice origanal. Atleast its privatly funded. Why can I see epic fail writen all over this? All I want to know if you were to come to South Africa would you pay to go see some gaint statue of a Zulu king? I know If I was to go to New York I would never pay to go see the Statue of Liberty. There are way better ways to waste your time and money imo.

If I was ever to travel to

If I was ever to travel to South Africa, I guess I would visit such a statue if it would exist over there. (What else could you want to see in this country?)

On the other hand: If the South African government really wants to do something to get more tourists into their country they should think first about reducing the rampant crime rates in this country.

Just something I find funny.

Our police stations are protected by private security companies. Funny that the police need outside help to protect there own stuff.

As long as you have common sense  it is unlikely tou will be a victim of crime in south Africa. Then again tourists seem to think walking to a secluded part of a beach is safe so I guess not many tourists that come here have any. Rule of thumb you see quite a few other people you are safe.

Reducing crime is easier said than done, even if there are jobs avalible people won't take them as crime just pays more.

I don't know about crazy.

I don't know about crazy.  Strategically and tactically, he was brilliant.  He was also one of a tiny number of people in African history to envision the nation state.  As a fan of giant statuary, I say go for it.

They have been working on that for decades. It wont be just his head or arm, it suppodidly when it is done will dipict even the horse he is riding on. The undertaking is supposed to take a couple generations, odds are that we wont see the final product.

But, just emagine if you were the guy in charge of the dynomite and put a hole in the wrong place or blew a critical chunk of the work, that would really fuck things up. Is there a way to say "Oops" in that context?

Are you sugesting killing your own father is a sane thing to do? Maybe we are thinking of crazy in two diferant ways.

Shaka

Being crazy doesn't rule out being a general.  Yep he was crazy.  When his mother died,To ensure that everyone would grieve properly, he forbade everyone to have sex for one year.  During that time if a woman got pregnant, both she and her husband were executed.

Weird, last I heard they

Weird, last I heard they wanted to build a huge statue of Mandela in Port Elizabeths's harbour. So naming roads isn't good enough now they needs statues of Shaka?

I think Mandela would be better, maybe they are still chosing who to biuld one of. First I heard it was mandela but the articale said Shaka so I guess they are going for him. This is privately funded so I don't mind, just think it is pointless. Road renaming was annoying, I can't remember the new ones let alone pronounce them  other than that I don't much care, it's not like that money was going to benefit me, the people who it may of benefited from it are the ones that support the renaming.

Yah, that one has been in the works for decades.  As it happens, it is privately funded as well and has not moved anywhere for a long time due to lack of money.  In fact, one of the barriers to getting the money is the fact that the native americans don't much like the idea, so it may never get completed.

So dude, you used a computer which runs on electricity that may well have come from a nuclear reactor to send your message down wires which were put in place by the phone/cable company so that they could make millions of dollars only to use the internet to tell us that you don't believe in science?
