Unfortunately, no. It's the evil product of the Westboro Church, which preaches hate, especially against atheists, but especially against homosexuals.

Fred Phelps is one sick bastard.

 Will, that's absolutely

Will, that's absolutely real.  He's the douche that breaks into funerals for gays and shouts about how god hated the deceased, and how Katrina was the fault of gays... or was that Pat Robertson... anyway, he's one of the most vinegary of the douches.

 I'm sorry, guys, I'm still

I'm sorry, guys, I'm still working through the denial stage. I just finished the "God Hates Canada" part of the "God Hates The World" site, and I have no way to describe my confusion. I just saw a picture of a kid holding a sign that says "God Hates You".

... what?

Their anti-Obama site is downright laughable... If it weren't for the fact that many people read it as the truth.

alas, Westboro is no joke

Westboro truly gives religion a bad name, and all genuine followers of Christ disown them.  It's like their little cult completely skipped over the love your neighbor parts of the Bible.

Jesus said Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.  Matthew 7:16-18  So, if it's any consolation, if the Westboro members don't repent, they will wind up frying in Hell.

This is some creepy shit,

This is some creepy shit, especially the music that plays in the little flash box.

The creepiest part? Using smiling children/teenagers for their twisted political agenda.

A profound theological statement? hahahahhahaha

 Very true. I don't hold

Very true. I don't hold all Chrisitians responsible for kooks like this. The God Hates Fags movement is truly one of the most twisted, sickening things to come out of a too literal reading of the bible.

They have to answer for them, but I dont hold them responsible. Do you want to be held responsible for an atheist that says things that you don't agree with?

Well, I was being partly tongue in cheeck, but let's make this perfectly clear:  As long as religious moderates believe in magic, we're going to have to deal with some very extreme magic believers.  You see, these people have a dogma.  They have an entire worldview built into their religions and the necessary by product of that is that it's difficult to seem less crazy when you also believe in magic.  Which is to say, that religious people lend credibility to the beliefs of the 'more' crazy religious people because their beliefs aren't any less invalid or unfounded or illogical.

Conversely, I can't be held responsible for other atheists.  There is nothing necessarily common to myself and every single other atheist except a lack of belief.  You can't draw any connection further than that.  It would be absurd to hold any particular atheist or atheists in general accountable for any other atheist when no dogma or philosophy or necessary world view can be derived from atheism except a lack of belief.

We usually are anyway, so I

We usually are anyway, so I don't see much of a difference. I've been made akin to Hitler and Stalin too many times to feel bad about returning the favour.

My biggest surprise with this topic is that some people didn't know about them. I distinctly recall discussing this particular group before here. I guess it got buried under the stacks of new topics. Lets see...

Please allow me to play Devil's Advocate here for a second,  but can we be sure that these aren't made up? I mean...you know...it is the internet and all! In my experience 80% of everything you see online is faked in some way!

I'm not sure what you mean.

I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean are the reports ficionalized, you'll have to take my word that they aren't. I remember each one of those topics hitting the news. I am pretty sure the links within them would still work, though admittedly I didn't make an effort to check. If this is what you mean, I can do some further looking and provide you with more info. They do however quote

They do however quote correctly the bible (English translations anyway) and in many ways they are being genuine christians unlike the majority of christians who are  generally decent people DESPITE not because of the bible. Basiclaly decent christians ignore the be a total c*nt parts of the bible and concentrate on the nicer parts

That's right mrjonno, they

That's right mrjonno, they certainly stay very true to the bible - to the last word. No cherry picking there. Although the very sight of the Phelps family activates my gag reflex, I kind of gotta respect them for having the courage of their convictions.

Let us bless the ever love'n bible.

 If satan exists, Phelps is

If satan exists, Phelps is the earthly incarnation.

I have heard it said, though, that he's got a law degree and that his whole thing is some incredibly twisted attack on Free Speech.

Also...has anybody seen the movie Phantasm?
