fuckin' orthodox.  everybody should read up on the history and political situation of israel.  this is a country made up of MOSTLY secular jews, reform jews, atheist jews, and non-jews.  the orthodox are a SMALL but VOCIFEROUS minority.  they have unbelievable political power, especially in jerusalem.  i recall reading an article a few years ago about natalie portman (herself an israeli) shooting a scene near the wailing wall where she kissed a guy.  the orthodox jews who were there at that time went batshit, started throwing rocks, and she had to be escorted away.  even secular jews driving their cars through jerusalem on the sabbath are in danger of having rocks thrown at their cars.

i hate these fuckers.  the fact is, zionism began as a modern, and often even socialist or marxist, movement.  the great zionist theodor herzl was a thoroughly secular jew, who respected religion but didn't expect the inhabitants of his envisioned jewish state as being religious.  even though he did talk about rebuilding the temple, it wasn't to have any dogmatic significance, nor certainly any sacrifices.  the first prime minister of israel, david ben-gurion, was a fucking MARXIST, for christ's sake.  he even participated in the 1905 russian revolution.  there were A LOT of socialists involved in planning the state of israel.  in fact, the orthodox were originally OPPOSED to it, since they said it usurped the work of the messiah.

then, like all fundies, the motherfucking assholes came in and HIGHJACKED what good, levelheaded secularists had created and fucked it all up and claimed it had ALWAYS been theirs by right--just like what the goddamn christers have done to the USA of jefferson and franklin!

sorry for the rant, but i fucking HATE the orthodox in israel, and their goddamn, shit-eating, child-murdering, neo-fascist flunkies like sharon, olmert, and that bitch golda meir (if only there was a hell, i would wish she was burning in it).  if i hate any people more, it's all the fat-ass, self-satisfied fundie christians in america who claim god will wipe us off the earth if we ever oppose israel, and actually influence our foreign policy with their bullshit.

Well there is plenty of secular hate in Israel too, most of the right on the Likud party are pretty secular themselves they just don't like Arabs (mainly because they are Arabs not because they are muslims)

Well of course Jews can be batshit crazy.  They may not have made up all this bullshit in the first place, but they're definitely the popularizers.  The Hellene and Roman cultures were on pace to make it to the moon by 1000 AD (or more properly 1753, Roman Era) before they got all wrapped up in the pseudo-Judaism of Jeezy Chreezy.  Hell, if you want to find a perfect modern mirror of ancient Israel, just remove the RPGs and Toyota trucks from the Taliban's Afghanistan.  

 

Well, that's not exactly what I meant.  The Taliban's Afghanistan wasn't just another third world shit pile.  It was a third world shit pile under the governement of a theocratic party that collapsed brick walls on top of homosexuals, outlawed songbirds and destroyed thousand year old sculptural masterpieces in the name of hating idolatry.  Read your Old Testament and you'll find the parallels are tighter between the Taliban and the Ancient Jews than between the culture that produced the Renaissance and the Enlightenment and the ancient Jews.

I read that earlier - what a strange situation. The kid's as dead as can be. There isn't the slightest ambiguity here, the brain is 100% necrotic. Yet, because machines and drugs are forcing the heart and lungs to function the parents think there's some hope for a miracle because of the religious definition of death.
