Carl Sagan : Cosmos

I just finished watching the 13 episodes of Carl Sagan's Cosmos series and thought I'd share the links with those of you who have heard of it, wanted to see it, but not quite enough to spend any time searching out working videos.  I wasn't sure if this would be allowed here, but I see the Cosmos episodes used to be linked in the rational content>videos section, so thought it would most likely be ok!  I think it is a series everybody should watch.

Wow, thanks for this.I

Wow, thanks for this.

I recently bought the whole series on DVD, and love it.

Cosmos and Sagan (along with Mr.Wizard and programs like 3...2...1...Contanct) are BIG reasons why I'm in the profession I'm in today. I'm glad to see new programs like Bill Nye out there today, I simply wish this was more popular and widespread. IMHO, every kid should get Legos and Erector sets by age 4, a model rocket by age 6, and a chemistry set by age 8, and the Cosmos library at 10.

And BTW, thanks Carl, for everything you did, I miss you and am so glad I got to shake your hand if only in passing nearly two decades ago. You never knew me, but you influenced me more than my own parents.

Wow phooney, thanks for

Wow phooney, thanks for links.  I thought Carl Sagan was just a really cool guy, a total science geek but one who didn't seem to talk down to those of us without scientific backgrounds.  He was a class act.

Thanks a load Phooney

Thanks for the links Phooney,  it took a couple of days but I got through them all.    The ten year later up dates were fantastic.

Glad people are enjoying the links, he certainly was an amazing individual.  Just when they showed him teaching in a classroom he really looked like he was getting the kids hooked on science.  "Sure, the sun is part of the milky way.  you're part of the milky way.  The milky way is a galaxy made of billions of stars, one of those stars has a system of planets, and one of those planets has many lifeforms on it, and one of those lifeforms... is you."  (from memory)

The part of his book "Billions and Billions" regarding his illness was a real tear jerker Sad

I won a NSF/NASA prize when I was 13. My Special Interest class (aka, geek supplemental) was a quarter-finalist in a young engineers competition. At the time the gravity of the situation really did not register, I was just in a science fair and got to shake the hand of the guy who did the cool astronomy program on PBS. I was just psyched I got to go to Cape Canaveral and Disney.

I didn't realize how important Carl was or how much of a hero he'd become to me til over a decade later.
