If there is any case law that Parton should research it would be that landmark case. Why? Because she, like far to many politically correct idiots think they have the right to be free from parody.
"I was deeply offended" is what she is saying about Howard Stern's editing of her voice made to make her look like a stereotypical redneck racist.
The Supreme Court has already ruled in the case where fundy Falwell suid Larry Flint for a parody add where it talked about Falwell having sex with his mother.
Although the court agreed that the print was offensive, they also said that no reasonable person would think it was real. The case was thrown out and Flint's parody was protected.
Dolly's suit should be thrown out too. Howard is well known for his ridicule and blasphemy and no reasonable person would take that audio edit seriously.
If Dolly would win a suit like this, it would dammage free speech. Shows like Shapel, Mancia and South Park could become targets of PC gestapo.
It is not about protecting Howard himself. Parody must be protected and Dolly, no matter how offended she is, must understand that in a free society, people are going to say things that we may not like. No reasonable person who knows Howards act, and no reasonable person who knows Dolly's Immage, would or should take this seriously.
Dolly is wrong, not for having emotions or being offended, she is wrong in filing the suit because it is the very type of thing that can destroy free speech.
