I participated last year (it was just Sydney Australia last year), and participating again this year.
Funny (annoying?) thing last year. Usually only about half the units I can see have lights on Saturday night (the other half are out) ... last year when I went out on my balcony for a smoke, EVERY house and unit I could see had its lights on in almost EVERY room.
I'm stoked to see this taking off around the world. A word of warning though, it is DAMN boring. No electronic devices, dark so you can't read or do much else.
Organised religion is the ultimate form of blasphemy.

I intended to participate. But I got invited to the pub. I suppose I didn't personally use any electricity during that time.
Not sure I quite see the point. Electricity is bad?

Every hour is earth hour in SA thanks to load shedding and blackouts
It's more of a symbolic thing than anything else, public awareness. Lots of people turning lights off for 1 hour isn't really all that much, it's more about getting public exposure, making people aware of the effects electronic devices have even when in sleep mode and getting them in the habbit of turning off devices completely once they're finished using them.
