Guest Suggestion: Greg Graffin
Submitted by simian on April 30, 2007 - 3:52am.Singer/songwriter Greg Graffin of Bad Religion should be a guest on the show. In addition to a 27 year long career as an icon in the punk rock scene, Graffin has managed to earn his PhD in Zoology from Cornell University... his PhD project is called The Cornell Evolution Project and it deals with how evolutionary scientists around the world perceive conflict between science and religion, and if religious themselves, how they reconcile that religion with their own scientific training.
A book also came out recently, Is Belief in God Good, Bad or Irrelevant?: A Professor And a Punk Rocker Discuss Science, Religion, Naturalism & Christianity, in which Graffin and Preston Jones, a professor at a small Christian college, debate naturalism vs. theism in a series of emails. The book is readable to the layman and is a very cordial discussion.
Graffin has written many songs dealing with the absurdity of religion and promoting naturalist values. Bad Religion will be releasing their newest album, New Maps of Hell, sometime in July this year. I believe that Graffin, if you can get him, would make an EXCELLENT show guest!!! I would go out of my way to make sure I was able to hear the live recording of this episode. Who else agrees with me?!?!
