Help pay for the new RRS server(s)

We recently spent about $2,500 and 250 combined man hours working on getting a new server for the Rational Response Squad series of websites. The new website, increased speed, and tons of improved features will be up and running sometime in February. When that happens, another 300-600 combined man hours over a few months will help create the most feature friendly website (for the subscriber) and oddly enough, a lightning fast website for anonymous users who like to peruse our site to learn. This is the result of a drupal caching module that will be installed that primarily benefits users that aren't logged in, but helps increase time to logged in users as less of their resources are tied up. And paying members will want the extra server resources as they will have a much more feature enhanced site.
All of the network sites will be receiving massive upgrades, including forums on some of them. The new forums will look more like a cross between what we have now, vbulletin, and phpbb.
Network sites that benefit are:
- Margaret Downey
- Atheist Volunteers
- Prayers To Jake
- Free Thinking Teens
- Ask the Atheist
- Christian Pwnage (on blogger now, coming to drupal soon with all the content in tact, new home of Rich Rodriguez our newest Core Member)
- Celebrity Atheists (doesn't use same name and password, looking for experienced mediawiki users to help keep things going)
Coming soon on the network:
Comedy Jesus
ReligionIsRetarded
We'll launch a new affiliate version of the site as a subdomain of rationalresponders.com to help unite atheist activists and group leaders all around the world.
AND MANY MORE SITES ON THE WAY!!
If you support the grassroots activity that led us to become the highest ranked atheist website in the world please help cover the exorbitant costs of keeping it all up and running. We receive more web traffic than 20-30 atheist orgs that earn more money than we do to keep their organization afloat.
EXPENSES
This year new server: $ 2,600
Next year new server (we hope): $3,000
First 11 months co-lo fee: $1,200
Next 12 months co-lo fee(2 servers): $2,000
The taxes we're gonna have to pay on receiving that income (roughly): $2,800
600-1200 combined man hours: Free
Unifying rational thinkers in a united front to help make this planet a better place: Priceless

What's up with the out-of-date Chip In bar graph?
I was about to Chip In, but noticed that the bar graph is out of date. Is it still working, or would I be throwing my money into a black hole?

membership
Brian I have been trying to pay for a gold memebership for the last three days, your pay pal keeps throwing up one frustrating denial after another and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. They have every possible number and address I have to give, far more then I want floating around in cyberspace. How about putting up an old fashion box number so I can stamp and mail in the effing check.

Fees attached
Does this organization have to pay the standard 27% interchange fee for pay pal use-age ? I think this website should be tax exempt, don't you ? These of course are 2 different subjects, not related to one another.
Tax exempt
Tax exempt is a great idea, I do not think Brian & Co. make much of a proft here. But to call this a non-profit charity site does stretch the imagination.
What the RRS needs is a realy smart lawyer (from the ACLU) to argue tax exempt status based on the 1st and 14th amendments, and equal access laws, because of the large number of active anti-RRS organizations (i.e. religions) that recieve tax exempt status for their works.

Jeffrick, I sent you an email, but it doesn't look like the link I sent you in email will work anyway. Seeing that you bumped the thread I'm assuming you haven't gotten the email?
As for non-profit status, we're still not going to go that route. Potentially in the future. As for paypal fees, they don't take 27%. They take about 2%. And it's worth it for us.
Jeffrick, try to put the membership through one more time while logged in, from this page. http://www.rationalresponders.com/monthly_subscriptions

Is there a reason why this is so? Or a thread somewhere you discuss this?

Organizing another blood doner clinic, or drop-ins at senior centers enough times in a year (through United Way) could get you the tax exempt status. You need this!!!!!!!

Yes Sapient, love the RRS
Yes Sapient, love the RRS improvements. Thanks dude ....
And hey RRS fans and posters, thank you too, but hey , I AM puzzled why so many of you aren't paying contributing "members" at $3 , or $10 a month chump change ???? It would surely help ....
I will be upgrading my paying status to $10 soon, and I am way below middle class financially .....
